
Development and Communications Senior Associate (Grantwriter)

Position Overview
Development and Communications Senior Associate (Grant Writer) – Wisconsin Community Services Inc. Job Code: 2026-ADMINIST-001. Location: Milwaukee. Department: Development. Status: Full Time. Key Responsibilities
Conceptualize and develop high‑level, complex grant proposals and submit them in a timely manner. Write, edit, and proofread funding proposals and applications for federal, state, county, and city government agencies, foundations, United Way, and other funding sources. Conduct research and gather data needed for proposals and applications. Assist in donor identification, cultivation, and recognition; strengthen foundation and corporate relationships. Solicit donations, advertising, and in‑kind contributions to promote WCS programs and special events. Coordinate with VPs, administrators, and program directors to locate grant opportunities and develop funding mechanisms for new or existing programs. Provide leadership in public relations, capital campaigns, and media outreach; prepare press releases and secure coverage. Prepare presentations, speak on behalf of the agency, and supervise interns in the Development and Communications Department. Maintain electronic and social media presence, update records of submitted proposals, and archive success stories for internal and external use. Create and maintain writing templates for agency communications and proposals. Essential Functions & Additional Duties
Gather agency statistics and external data related to justice system, community reintegration, behavioral health, peer support, and other focus areas. Maintain a central filing system for currently funded programming and projects. Participate in public relations strategizing. Update records of submitted proposals and applications as results become known. Represent the agency at conferences, community meetings, and community‑building events. Take ownership of supervising interns placed in the Development and Communications Department. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communication, public policy, social welfare, or related field (Master's preferred). Five to ten years of experience in grant/proposal writing and/or fund development for human services organizations. Prior experience with institutional donors and knowledge of fundraising and research techniques. Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills; proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel). Experience with databases, design/presentation software, and event software. Ability to submit electronic funding applications. Compensation
