Program Director III University of Alabama at Birmingham

The UAB Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a Program Director III to lead the administration of the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE) and provide sophisticated intellectual support to the Heersink School of Medicine’s Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Science. The mission of the COERE is to offer training and research development programs, promote health system science, and facilitate the advancement of health outcomes and population health research methods. This position will independently oversee the Center’s operations, staff, space, and finances, and serve as a thought partner to the Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Science in creating research development programs and leading the Section on Dissemination and Implementation Science.

General Responsibilities

Directs the administrative and fiscal affairs of a large, complex department/division or multiple departments.

Represents and speaks on behalf of upper management with the University Administration at all levels.

Responsible for strategic planning, analysis/forecasting/budgeting, oversight, legal documentation, formal agreements, and international and domestic project administration and management.

May manage major international collaborations by partnering with faculty and other staff on project writing development, personnel management, facilities/space planning, fiscal aspects of the program including grant proposals and grant administration (in conjunction with departmental administrators).​

Establishes administrative and financial systems for the department.

Directs department staff as needed to ensure completion of major projects and tasks.

May require international travel and may assist in interdepartmental collaborations.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong relationships with research faculty and staff at UAB.

Ability to manage competing deadlines and numerous direct reports.

Intimate knowledge of UAB’s research environment.

Developing others and strong interpersonal skills.

Scientific writing at a professional level.

Problem-solving to resolution.

Experience with NIH‑style grant writing and submissions, NIH‑style budgeting, leadership experience, and research administration at UAB specifically.

MPH, MBA, or PhD is ideal.

Salary Range:

$73,945–$120,165

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and ten (10) years of related experience required.

Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
