Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of seven stations.
Position Summary The AM Reporter creates news content for use in WUNC’s radio broadcasts and digital platforms. WUNC emphasizes highly produced and edited local reporting that is woven seamlessly into programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
Work schedule: 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM Monday to Friday with occasional shifts on holidays or weekends.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post‑Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent). Candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or background in independent academic or instructional activities may be accepted with a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3+ years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may involve direction/oversight of programs focusing higher education institutional resources toward community or regional issues.

Demonstrated experience as a radio producer or reporter.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience at a listener‑supported public radio station or network.
Experience with public radio or related not‑for‑profit fundraising.
Experience hosting in broadcast radio.
Ability to plan and meet deadlines working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators.
Ability to work independently as well as with colleagues effectively and collaboratively.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Creativity and initiative.
Familiarity with North Carolina’s issues.
