Job Title Assistant Director of Student Involvement (Fraternity & Sorority Life)

Job Summary The Assistant Director of Student Involvement (Fraternity & Sorority Life) supports the Office of Student Involvement (OSI) and the Division of Student Life by developing educational initiatives, innovative programming, and meaningful relationships to cultivate impactful student organization experiences. The role involves oversight of over 800 students across 14 fraternity and sorority chapters, promoting student leadership and aligning student participation with the University’s strategic plan,

Responsibilities

Serve as advisor to the Furman Panhellenic Council (FPC) and Interfraternity Council (IFC), providing community support through one‑on‑one meetings and council meetings to promote student leadership and a values‑centered fraternity and sorority experience.

Direct the coordination of formal and informal recruitment activities for FPC and IFC; act as primary staff contact for membership intake processes for the two National Pan‑Hellenic Council (NPHC) organizations.

Advise and mentor leaders of FPC, IFC, and NPHC chapters through regular one‑on‑one meetings.

Coordinate and/or assist with community‑wide educational programs, including officer transition workshops, leadership retreats, new member programming, and leadership awards.

Oversee and manage the Furman Fraternal Excellence program to align fraternity/sorority organizations with Furman’s strategic priorities.

Communicate, interpret, and enforce appropriate University policies; provide guidance on risk management, membership recruitment and education, community building, academic excellence, social justice, civic engagement, and personal leadership.

Assist with management of syncDIN (student organization management software) to ensure accurate event records and updated rosters of members, officers, and advisors.

Assist with updating records related to scholarship, community service, philanthropic efforts, event management, and other pertinent statistics for OSI and the Division of Student Life.

Serve as point of contact for chapter inter
ational organizations, alumni, and chapter advisors.

Oversee all OSI marketing and communications efforts, including the Furman Fraternity & Sorority Life website.

Manage Fraternity & Sorority Life operating budget.

Collaborate with other Student Involvement staff to support a comprehensive student organization program.

Work with the Assistant Director of Leadership Development to develop and facilitate leadership workshops for student organization leaders.

Assist in the development of assessment plans, strategic thinking, learning outcomes, and goals aligned with the University’s mission and vision.

Serve on campus committees as assigned.

Participate in the Division of Student Life on‑call crisis management rotation.

Participate in professional development activities, with approval by the Director, and maintain volunteer activities with a chosen professional association as appropriate.

Complete performance review process with supervisor.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the Division of Student Life and the University.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field required.

1–3 years of experience in Student Affairs or Higher Education (graduate experience may be considered); experience in fraternity and sorority advising strongly preferred.

Knowledge of best practices and ability to infuse research with practical experience to create intentional leadership programs for fraternity and sorority life.

Understanding of student development and identity development theories and practical applications is essential.

Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

Ability to interact with a diverse population and maintain a positive attitude in times of crisis.

Understanding of the importance of student learning outcomes and assessment preferred.

Work Conditions Work is performed under usual office conditions. Some evening and weekend hours are required.
