Role Description The role involves participating in CREATE therapeutic programming within an after‑school environment for homeless children and families in onsite housing programs. Responsibilities include assessment, intervention planning, implementation, follow‑up, parent‑child/family engagement, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

Assess students’ needs through observations, records, tests, and consultations.

Create treatment plans using a trauma‑informed care approach.

Plan and implement interventions to mitigate trauma effects.

Complete timely assessments and documentation (Biopsychosocial, progress notes, summary of service notes).

Gather and analyze data for accuracy.

Use evidence‑based models such as Conscious Discipline, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing.

Develop and implement therapeutic goals for a caseload of 2–3 children.

Facilitate weekly therapeutic group lessons.

Engage students with arts, drama, music, dance, sports, games, and field trips.

Teach healthy emotional expression, coping, and social skills.

Record and analyze progress.

Evaluate intervention effectiveness.

Provide training and support to staff and parents.

Collect and report ongoing data.

Collaborate with community partners and disciplines.

Implement social‑emotional curricula (PATHS and Second Steps).

Increase parent involvement through designed opportunities.

Participate in regular team meetings.

Complete Childcare Licensing training/in‑service requirements.

Maintain confidential records and professional boundaries.

Demonstrate schedule flexibility.

Participate in fundraising events, Bridge Builders, and related activities.

Provide facility tours and represent the organization when needed.

Support team and supervisor in assigned tasks.

Meet personal goals and contribute to team/organizational targets.

Requirements

B.S. degree in therapeutic recreation, child/human/family development (child life concentration or minor), or a mental health field; Master’s desirable.

Minimum three years of experience for bachelor’s level candidates (or greater for master’s); direct experience with children and parents required.

Bi‑lingual preferred.

NCTRC or Child Life Certification preferred.

Skill Requirements Must work effectively with children and parents, represent and communicate status and progress to small groups and professionals within a multi‑disciplinary framework. Requires strong interpersonal and supervisory skills, oral and written communication, group leadership, facilitation, dependability, maturity, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, confidentiality, minimal supervision, organization, detail orientation, and computer literacy (Microsoft Access, Word, Excel).

Physical Requirements Hearing and speaking ability, physical and emotional stamina to handle job‑related issues.

Other Must pass pre‑employment screening, background checks, and demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to transport clients when needed.
