Christopher Whitney is working with a leading alternative credit investment manager with approximately $25 billion in AUM, investing in corporate credit, asset-based finance and opportunistic credit.
We are seeking a Managing Director, Capital Formation to expand the firm's fundraising efforts with institutional investors. This senior professional will play a central role in originating, developing, and managing relationships with pensions, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, consultants, OCIOs, and other institutional allocators. The role is highly visible internally and externally and will be instrumental in supporting the continued growth of the firm’s credit platform.
Position Summary The Managing Director will be responsible for driving capital raising across the firm’s credit strategies, with a primary focus on institutional channels. This individual will develop and execute fundraising plans, cultivate new prospective investors, deepen existing relationships, and partner closely with investment, product, and investor relations teams to position the firm effectively in the marketplace.
The ideal candidate is a proven institutional fundraiser with strong relationships across the allocator community, a sophisticated understanding of private and alternative credit markets, and a strong track record of raising capital for commingled funds, separately managed accounts, and other customized solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead capital formation efforts with institutional investors across the firm’s credit platform.
Originate and manage relationships with public and corporate pensions, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, family offices with institutional processes, consultants, and OCIO platforms.
Develop and execute strategic fundraising plans for new and existing products, including flagship funds, adjacent strategies, and bespoke mandates.
Maintain a robust pipeline of prospective investors and advance opportunities through all stages of the fundraising process.
Serve as a senior external representative of the firm, articulating the investment philosophy, platform strengths, track record, and relative value proposition across credit strategies.
Partner with portfolio managers, product specialists, and investor relations colleagues to prepare for investor meetings, due diligence sessions, annual meetings, and onsite visits.
Manage consultant and intermediary relationships where relevant, including education, product positioning, and response coordination.
Help shape product development and market feedback loops by communicating investor demand, competitive intelligence, and evolving market trends to firm leadership.
Contribute to broader strategic initiatives across capital formation and investor coverage.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant professional designation preferred.
Significant experience in institutional fundraising, capital formation, investor relations, or business development within alternative asset management.
Strong preference for experience raising capital for private credit, opportunistic credit, direct lending, structured credit, or broader alternative credit strategies.
Deep understanding of institutional allocator decision-making processes, investment underwriting, and portfolio construction considerations.
Established relationships across the institutional investor ecosystem in North America; broader global relationships are a plus.
