Production Coordinator

Alpha Hire, King Of Prussia, PA, United States

Some companies say they treat their people well. This one was built by brothers — literally — and has operated that way since day one. Our client is a family-owned structural steel fabricator and erector with a 45,000 sq. ft. shop, a portfolio of 500+ completed projects, and a reputation among GCs and developers for consistency, communication, and execution they don't have to manage around. They're not hiring a coordinator to push paper. They're hiring someone who understands what it means when a beam assembly doesn't match the NC1 file — and knows exactly what to do about it. If you've lived and worked inside the structural steel world and want a seat at the table in a shop that's growing on its own terms, this is worth a conversation. What You'll Own Drive material readiness for production — compile material lists from fabrication prints, perform takeoffs from structural drawings, and reserve materials proactively to protect schedule and budget Own the purchasing function — source materials, negotiate with vendors, confirm orders and delivery timelines, and ensure every purchase aligns with project needs and cost targets Keep inventory accurate and allocated — track stock daily, maintain minimum levels on consumables, hardware, and paint, and coordinate with the shop team on usage and replenishment Support technical production prep — scrub drawings for accuracy, check NC1 and CAD files, prepare nesting lists and parts lists using ProNest, and hand off complete documentation packages to the production team Bridge production and purchasing — work directly with the Production Manager to align material flow with project schedules and communicate ETAs and material risks before they become problems Maintain documentation integrity — log all orders into the company portal with full detail (supplier, order date, delivery date, material specs), keep vendor confirmations organized, and maintain confidentiality of pricing and project costs Serve as a reliable link — keep Project Managers, the Production Manager, and ownership informed on material status, risks, and changes without needing to be asked Requirements Structural steel industry background — required, non-negotiable. You must be able to read and interpret fabrication prints for beams, columns, assemblies, and parts. Purchasing or coordination experience without this foundation will not be considered. Demonstrated ability to perform material takeoffs from structural drawings and marked-up plans Familiarity with NC1 files and the ability to check them against drawings for accuracy Comfort with plate nesting concepts; ProNest experience is a plus Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to type at 40+ WPM Strong numerical aptitude — you work comfortably with fractional measurements down to 1/16" increments Organized, detail-driven, and able to manage multiple active projects without things falling through the cracks Clear communicator across shop floor, office, and vendor relationships Non-union affiliation required Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience Health insurance and benefits Paid time off and paid holidays Primarily office-based role with occasional shop exposure A stable, growing company with an established project pipeline and long-term customer relationships Direct access to ownership and the chance to grow with a team that promotes from within
