Position Summary
The Head of Marketing is a strategic, hands‑on executive responsible for advancing the Space Foundation’s global brand, market position, audience engagement, and revenue growth. This role leads the development and execution of an integrated marketing, communications, and go‑to‑market strategy across all channels—including brand, digital, PR, social, and direct marketing—to elevate the Space Foundation as the leading nonprofit organization serving the global space ecosystem.
The Head of Marketing is both a strategist and operator—capable of setting vision while driving execution. This leader partners across a matrixed organization to align marketing with program goals, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and deliver measurable impact across core offerings, including space sector events, education programs, industry engagement, and thought leadership. The role requires a dynamic leader with deep, modern marketing expertise, strong executive presence, and the ability to navigate complexity, remove obstacles, and build a high‑performing, mission‑driven team and culture.
Responsibilities
Lead enterprise‑wide marketing and communications strategy, driving brand strength, audience growth, and revenue impact.
Define and steward the Space Foundation brand, ensuring clear positioning, consistent messaging, and strong global visibility.
Develop and execute integrated go‑to‑market plans across programs, events, partnerships, and thought leadership initiatives.
Oversee all marketing channels—including digital, web, PR, social, content, email, and paid media—ensuring a modern, data‑driven approach.
Partner across a matrixed organization to align marketing with program, development, and partnership goals.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, media, partners, sponsors, and industry leaders.
Lead content and storytelling that positions the Space Foundation as a trusted voice in the global space ecosystem.
Drive operational excellence across team, processes, and platforms to ensure efficient execution and measurable performance.
Lead, mentor, and inspire a high‑performing team, overseeing directors, managers, and specialists across brand, digital, communications, creative, and marketing operations while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and positive culture.
Responsible for setting priorities, developing team capabilities, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Oversees the work of assigned personnel by setting priorities, coaching for development, and managing performance to achieve individual and team success in alignment with organizational goals.
Budgetary Responsibilities
Develops and manages the program or department budget, ensuring adherence to budgetary standards, proactively tracking expenditures, and communicating deviations to Finance in a timely and transparent manner.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field (MBA or Master’s preferred)
15+ years of progressive leadership experience in marketing and communications
5+ years’ direct leadership experience
Proven experience leading integrated marketing across brand, digital, PR, and demand generation
Experience supporting events, programs, and mission‑driven organizations
Strong understanding of modern marketing technologies, CRM systems, and analytics
Experience working with executive leadership teams and boards
Experience in the space, aerospace, or related technology sectors
Physical Demands
This role requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time. Occasional travel may be required to support conferences, industry events, and key organizational programs. The employee may occasionally lift materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is generally performed in an office or hybrid setting. Occasional work may be required at events or offsite locations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job Status
FLSA Classification: This position is exempt according to guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, as such, an individual in this position is not eligible to receive overtime pay.
Full‑or Part‑Time: This position is full‑time in nature. An individual in this position will regularly work a schedule consisting of 40+ hours per week.
Work Location: This position’s primary worksite is the Space Foundation headquarters in Colorado Springs, CO. The position is eligible for up to two work‑from‑home days per week, aligned with Space Foundation’s current hybrid work policy.
Regular Schedule: Usual business days are Monday through Friday, holidays excepted, with typical hours from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the time zone in which the position is located.
