Job Summary
WJHG is seeking an energetic, charismatic, and professional journalist to join its award‑winning morning show team. The ideal candidate has proven experience as a multi‑market journalist (MMJ) and news anchor with strong live reporting, shooting, writing, editing, and anchoring skills. The role requires early morning on‑air presence, versatility across broadcast and streaming platforms, and the ability to handle a wide range of stories on a daily basis.
Duties / Responsibilities
Excellent on‑air communication and reading skills.
Strong ad‑lib ability and on‑air stamina for weekday broadcasts at 4:30 am.
Conduct live interviews covering both serious and community topics.
Develop and deliver solo MMJ stories quickly on deadline.
Propose and implement creative ideas while staying current on trending topics.
Anchor news on broadcast and streaming platforms, including filling in midday newscasts.
Flexibly fill in on other shifts, holidays, and weekends as required.
Represent the station at community events as directed by management.
Qualifications / Requirements
Minimum 2–5 years of on‑air experience in a professional newsroom.
Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Media Communications, or a related field.
On‑air reel demonstrating live reporting, anchoring, and reporting skills.
Experience working in a professional broadcast setting.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills suitable for an early‑morning newsroom.
Technical proficiency across broadcast, digital/streaming, social media, and web platforms.
Demonstrated news judgment and ethical decision‑making in difficult situations.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet Gray Television driving requirements.
