This position can be located in our Dallas, Texas office, HQ office in Pasadena, CA or Irvine, CA

The Underwriter will be responsible for supporting East West Bank’s (“EWB”) nationwide Commercial Banking Business that focuses primarily on senior secured cash flow loans to middle market companies. Other loan structures will include ABL and Asset-Backed. Loan sizes typically range from $20 million to $50 million. Prospective clients include both sponsor owned and non-sponsor owned companies. The Underwriter will work with a deal team, which typically includes a Relationship Manager and a Credit Analyst. The Underwriter will be supervised by an Underwriting Manager. The Underwriter will perform all facets of underwriting, including preparing opportunity memos prior to issuing term sheets, underwriting transactions, preparing final underwriting approval memos and negotiating credit agreements.

Working with a deal team, the Underwriter will review initial data for prospective clients and prepare opportunity memos. Present the opportunity memos to Credit Officers and then issue the approved term sheets. Perform detailed underwritings that surface the material strengths, risks and mitigants of prospective clients. Evaluating financial statements, historical trends, projections, management performance, industry, cash flow, capital structure and collateral analysis. Preparing sensitized financial models and evaluating the other relevant data related to new deal opportunities. Reviewing and analyzing reports, including 3rd party appraisals and valuations. Preparing written Credit Approval Memorandums for presentation to a Credit Officer in order to obtain final approval to close a new deal. May perform other duties as assigned by management.

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, management, business, or related field Minimum 3 years of experience in financial institution in an accounting/financial, lending, credit analysis or related area Ability to analyze historical financial trends. Modeling experience, specifically sensitizing management and/or sponsor projections based on information learned during underwritings. Excellent organizational and time management skills Basic skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; word processing, spreadsheet and specialty software programs. Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties
