Senior Director of IT Operations

The Sr. Director of Systems & IT Operations will lead the strategy and execution of IT infrastructure, systems, and information tools across a rapidly expanding, multi‑site healthcare organization. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring deep technical expertise in legacy, on‑prem Linux and open‑source environments, strong operational oversight, and the ability to evolve systems while preserving stability and continuity. The role oversees system evaluation, deployment, optimization, and ongoing operations for clinical platforms, patient‑facing systems, collaboration tools, secure communications, and core infrastructure, while ensuring HIPAA compliance and operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Develop and execute IT systems and infrastructure strategies aligned with organizational growth, without unnecessary disruption to existing architecture Partner with executive leadership to define technology roadmaps that balance scalability, security, and compliance Provide clear direction and accountability across systems, infrastructure, and IT operations Infrastructure & Systems Oversight Manage centralized off‑premises data center operations and off‑site backup strategies Oversee and support a legacy, on-prem Linux environment, including: RAID‑based storage architecture Distributed file systems (DFS) and affiliated storage technologies Maintain and optimize open‑source platforms and systems, including: Postfix/Dovecot mail infrastructure Nextcloud document collaboration Docker‑based services and functions Networking and VPN solutions Ensure performance, availability, and reliability of EHR and practice management (SaaS) platforms Support deployed clinical and administrative IT infrastructure across all locations Security & Compliance Implement, maintain, and refine security protocols and controls Ensure HIPAA compliance across systems, infrastructure, and operational processes Support audit readiness, documentation, and disciplined change management Operational Excellence & Multi‑Site Support Provide IT leadership and operational support across 40+ locations, with sensitivity to continued expansion Ensure consistent systems, tools, and support models across all sites Streamline collaboration platforms and shared work environments for clinical and administrative teams Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and support a technology team of approximately six or more professionals, with oversight of systems and facilities Foster a culture of operational discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement Balance leadership responsibilities with hands‑on technical involvement as needed

Required Qualifications: Core Technical Experience Advanced experience administering Linux‑based, on‑prem production environments Extensive, hands‑on operational experience with: RAID storage architecture Distributed file systems (DFS) and related storage technologies Experience supporting and maintaining legacy infrastructure environments Strong understanding of systems integration across distributed, multi‑site environments Experience with containerization technologies, including Docker Solid knowledge of networking, VPNs, firewalls, backup, and disaster recovery strategies Experience managing off‑premises data center or colocation environments Microsoft & End‑User Computing Experience supporting and scaling widely deployed Windows workstations and end‑user tools in a mixed‑environment setting Leadership & Management Prior experience in an IT leadership role (Manager, Senior Manager, Director, or equivalent) Demonstrated ability to lead or scale small, highly operational technology teams Experience overseeing IT operations across multiple physical locations Ability to operate at an enterprise scope, balancing hands‑on execution with strategic leadership

Preferred Experience: Healthcare or service‑based organizations with multi‑location operations Experience operating in regulated or compliance‑driven environments Background supporting environments where uptime, stability, and continuity are critical
