Director of Pharmacy
is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, and regulatory compliance of all pharmacy services across the organization. This individual ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication use while advancing clinical excellence and supporting organizational growth.
This role provides oversight across inpatient, outpatient, specialty pharmacy services, as well as psychiatric and Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD) operations throughout Michigan. The Director works collaboratively with physicians, nursing leadership, administration, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Provide strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for all pharmacy operations, including inpatient, outpatient, and specialty pharmacy services Oversee and support pharmacy services for the organization's psychiatric hospital, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant medication management practices Provide oversight and coordination of medication management across Hospital Outpatient Departments (HOPD) and affiliated facilities throughout Michigan Ensure standardization of pharmacy operations, policies, and procedures across all sites Develop, implement, and enforce policies in compliance with Michigan Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS, and The Joint Commission standards Manage departmental budgeting, including drug expenditures, staffing, capital planning, and revenue cycle optimization Lead formulary management and Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee initiatives, ensuring evidence-based and cost-effective medication use Oversee implementation and optimization of pharmacy systems, including EHR integration, automation, and dispensing technologies Direct medication safety programs, including adverse event reporting, medication error reduction, and antimicrobial stewardship Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy staff, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on clinical program development (e.g., oncology, critical care, infectious disease, transitions of care) Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including cost per patient, turnaround times, formulary compliance, and patient satisfaction Lead and ensure compliance with 340B Drug Pricing Program requirements and optimization strategies, where applicable Serve as a subject matter expert during regulatory surveys, accreditation reviews, and internal audits Represent the pharmacy department on hospital and executive committees, including Quality, Infection Control, and Medical Executive Committees Required Qualifications
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-accredited institution Active and unrestricted Michigan Pharmacist License Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive pharmacy experience, including at least 3–5 years in a leadership role Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication use systems, and regulatory compliance Demonstrated financial acumen with experience managing large departmental budgets Experience with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and pharmacy automation technologies Preferred Qualifications
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency; PGY2 in Health-System Pharmacy Administration preferred Board certification (e.g., BCPS, BCACP) Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or related field) Experience with 340B programs, specialty pharmacy, and integrated health systems Lean Six Sigma certification or experience with process improvement methodologies Core Competencies Strategic thinking with the ability to translate organizational goals into operational execution Strong leadership and team-building skills Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration Data-driven decision-making and analytical problem-solving Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice Adaptability in a dynamic healthcare environment Work Environment Primarily on-site within Michigan healthcare facilities Requires periodic travel by car to psychiatric hospital, HOPD departments, and affiliated facilities across Michigan Standard business hours with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities as needed Exposure to clinical healthcare environments, including sterile compounding areas Insight is an equal opportunity employer and values workplace diversity!
