The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: This is the full performance level of skilled trade work at the MDTA. Employees in this position work within the Skilled Trades Department, which is responsible for maintaining all environmental, mechanical, structural and electrical systems for all MDTA buildings and structures located within the Central Region. The incumbent in this position will provide maintenance to all potable water and sewage systems for MDTA facilities in the Baltimore metro area. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:- Purge all boilers on regular basis and test safety features;
- Inspect and repair sewage lift stations, check pumps, hours, operation, and chemical cleaners;
- Inspect building and tunnel sump pits, test for storm water removal;
- Perform service inspections of fire hydrants and check valves; and
- Locate and repair water mains and valves.
This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDOT building. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds and may also be required to work on equipment located on high poles or other elevated locations, and/or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground.
Employees in these classes are considered essential employees and are subject to emergency callback procedures, twenty-four hours a day, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees in this position will report directly to the Skilled Trade Specialist Supervisor or other designated MDTA official. The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, MD.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing.Notes:
1. Additional work experience performing skilled trades work as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. A certificate from a vocational technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades as defined above may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades as defined above field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

1. Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility and are subject to call-in.
2. Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements.
3. Employees who work with, or may be exposed to, hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint, or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and may be required to pass hazardous materials training and can wear a respirator.
