Minimum Experience/Education:
10-15 years as a nonprofit executive, corporate leader, relationship manager, nonprofit fundraiser, or any combination. Nonprofit fundraising experience strongly preferred.

Your mission
: Expand CPB’s funding, reputation, and programs across Chicagoland, establishing us as the go-to capacity and organizational-resilience-building partner for local nonprofits, the go-to partner for both companies and business professionals eager to make a meaningful difference in the community, and the go-to investment of choice for philanthropists who want to ensure a thriving regional social sector.
This role is part fundraiser, part nonprofit/volunteer recruiter, part brand ambassador, part hands-on relationship manager, part Board whisperer, part program manager, and part growth strategist.
To be successful, you will: be facile in a tech-forward, remote workplace; comfortable asking for funding to support a social mission; successful with simultaneously attending to the (often-competing) demands of local nonprofits, skilled volunteers, and funders; and adept at facilitating a nonprofit Board.
Based in Chicago, the MD will work remotely and travel 2-3x/year to DC. The MD will attend/facilitate frequent evening and weekend in-person and virtual events in Chicagoland, with notice. The MD reports to the CEO, works with One Compass staff, collaborates with other CPB metro leaders, and staffs the Compass Chicago Board.
Responsibilities:
As the leader of CPB in Chicagoland, the Managing Director is responsible for executing CPB’s vision to scale Compass Chicago. That includes: 1) fundraising to ensure the sustainability of Compass Chicago; 2) expanding CPB’s Chicago brand presence; 3) recruiting/cultivating/stewarding Chicago volunteers and nonprofits, and 4) driving high-quality programming that meets Chicago nonprofits’ needs.
Specific responsibilities:
Raise minimum $600,000 (total) from sources in Chicago in your first 2 years, then grow annual fundraising y/o/y to support program growth Steward existing/cultivate new foundation donors, corporate sponsors, and major gifts Steward, staff, and recruit new members to Compass Chicago’s Board. Ensure 100% of members follow through on their commitments. Maintain timely, thorough development records in Salesforce
Implement years 2/3 of Compass Chicago’s strategic plan Conduct the volunteer
onprofit/donor outreach, cultivation, and stewardship necessary to achieve targets Support execution of Board-level initiatives
Expand brand recognition, reputation, and impact across Chicago via Attending 5-10 volunteer, corporate, and/or funder/partner events/year Securing 2-4 speaking engagements or earned media hits/year in relevant forums Raising awareness among nonprofits and volunteers via direct and channel outreach (e.g. b-school alumni clubs, nonprofit coalitions, etc…) Gathering impact stories for use in fundraising/marketing
Be CPB point person for Chicago nonprofits and volunteers Recruit/cultivate/steward Chicago nonprofits and volunteers for all CPB programs (~50 nonprofits & 120-150 volunteers/year) Conduct ~50 30-minute scoping calls with Chicago nonprofits/year Lead 3-5 nonprofit information sessions/year and 8-15 volunteer information sessions/year
Ensure 100% of Compass Chicago programming meets or exceeds quality standards: Implement On Track in Chicago, including: recruiting 10-20 nonprofit applicants and 60-100 volunteers per cohort, facilitating each cohort’s Client Selection Committee, curating team, leader, and advisor matches for each nonprofit, Delivering the required live nonprofit/volunteer orientations and trainings, checking in monthly with nonprofits and volunteer team leads, and reviewing Mid/End-of-Project survey data, and troubleshooting issues in real-time Collaborate with CPB’s Program Directors to source/solicit/hand off Chicago nonprofits and volunteers Contribute to program evolution by Participating in cross-CPB initiatives to improve recruitment/selection/training/support; service lines; data management; and reporting, Informing content of marketing collateral, application forms, and info session/training decks, plus guiding last-mile adaptation for Chicago, Leading occasional general Zoom information sessions
Qualifications: Passion for CPB’s mission Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising, strategic visioning and execution, and board management Strong relationship-building/management skills Self-starter with proven ability to stay on top of multiple requests and deadlines while working remotely and team player who enjoys collaborating with colleagues Ability/desire to regularly be “out in the community” actively relationship-building on behalf of CPB Proactive problem-solver with the drive to take initiative and the judgment to know when to seek guidance and support Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, in writing, verbally, and visually Excellent judgment and discretion with handling sensitive or confidential information Experience as a skills-based volunteer, or volunteering/working in a nonprofit strongly preferred Experience with G-Suite, Slack, Salesforce, and AI LLMs a plus
Compensation: Full-time starting salary: $115,000. Current benefits package: schedule flexibility; generous paid leave with flexible PTO, federal holidays, and up to 10 fixed org-closed mental health days/year; medical, dental and vision; 401K plan with 1% employer contribution; and employer-funded short/long-term disability insurance.
