Photo Content Producer

The University of Vermont, Burlington, VT, United States

Job Overview The University of Vermont’s Strategic Communications team is seeking a Photo Content Producer to serve as the institution’s lead still photographer and a key contributor to brand‑level visual storytelling. This role operates independently and is responsible for planning and producing photography that supports institutional priorities and executive‑level communications across digital, editorial, and marketing channels, while also providing limited video support as part of a collaborative creative team.

The role requires excellent project planning and production management—scoping needs, developing shot lists and schedules, coordinating logistics, and balancing multiple concurrent deadlines—often in support of senior leadership and institutional initiatives. The position combines hands‑on photography with creative concepting, editing, asset management, and mentorship of student employees. Ideal candidates bring strong visual judgment, sound independent decision‑making, collaborative instincts, and demonstrated experience working with senior leaders and stakeholders in complex, mission‑driven environments, with a portfolio that demonstrates thoughtful storytelling and technical excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Five or more years of professional experience in photography, including demonstrated expertise in capturing and editing still imagery in a professional or institutional context.

Demonstrated portfolio showcasing a wide range of photographic work, subjects, and visual storytelling approaches.

Demonstrated proficiency with professional photography equipment and post‑production tools.

Experience working across digital platforms, including web and social media, with an understanding of platform‑specific visual requirements.

Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills, with the ability to independently scope work, set priorities, and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Demonstrated experience working with senior leadership and high‑level stakeholders, including the ability to operate with discretion, prepare effectively, and produce on‑brand visual assets in high‑visibility settings.

Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative work environment.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience producing photography for marketing, communications, or editorial use within established brand guidelines.

Experience working with digital asset management (D.A.M.) platforms such as PhotoShelter or similar systems.

Experience creating and preparing visual assets for digital and social media platforms.

Experience working within a higher education, nonprofit, or similarly complex organizational environment.

Special Conditions Probationary period may be required. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required (if non‑exempt position, overtime may apply). Background check required for this position.

Pay Anticipated Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000

Employment Terms Position: Exempt, Full‑time (1.0 FTE), 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year. Union Position: Yes, UVMSU. Position posted for a minimum of one week, thereafter subject to removal without notice.
