Position: Part-Time News Anchor, Reporter and New Editor
Lotus Seattle is seeking a dynamic and experienced part time News Anchor, Reporter, and News Editor for its heritage news station, Northwest Newsradio 97-7, AM 1000. The ideal candidate will help prepare and deliver engaging news content, report on breaking news events, serve as board operator for special programming, and produce special projects and programming as assigned.
The part time News Anchor/Reporter/News Editor position at Northwest Newsradio fulfills a combination of needs for our station during the weekend. This position does feature regular hours of board operator work, writing, producing, as well as anchoring newscasts. On occasion the position will offer extra hours during the week to cover shifts for those who are ill or on vacation.
The perfect candidate has a minimum of 2 years’ experience in radio or television, is proficient and aggressive in social media, is an excellent writer, and embraces using digital platforms (podcasting, streaming audio, streaming video) to promote the Northwest Newsradio brand. Candidates need to submit an audio demonstration of their on-air ability with their resume and be prepared to take a writing test if requested.
Primary, daily responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Content Creation. Plan, prepare, and produce material for newscast.
Host or help produce special programming as assigned.
Engage listeners in social media. Post and interact with listeners during workday.
Participate regularly in station promotions and appearances.
Participate regularly in charity events representing Northwest Newsradio.
Be available for any other assignment from the Director of News and Programming.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field OR equivalent experience preferred.
Radio or television news writing experience in a medium or large market.
Passionate and Knowledgeable about the news of the day, and the names of those regularly in the news.
Excellent verbal communications skills.
Excellent storytelling ability.
Excellent writing skills.
Excellent ability to incorporate natural sound and music into stories when appropriate.
Good ability to work efficiently, quickly and accurately turning material for on air, social media, and our website.
Good knowledge of radio editing software including Adobe Audition and similar programs.
Familiarity with NewsBoss news software.
Positive attitude and ability to work both independently and as a team.
Engaging writing ability.
Strong interviewing skills.
Ability to determine the most compelling material our audience finds relevant and prioritize it in your broadcast daypart.
Working Conditions and Travel Requirements
All hours assigned will be in the office.
Expected to be available for last-minute fill-in if the need arises.
May require travel to station promotion events and/or high-profile news events.
Valid drivers’ license with good driving record.
NOTE:
This position is an on-site role that requires the employee to work a full day at our Seattle studios in order to help build a healthy culture and team at Lotus Seattle Corp.
Compensation And Weekly Hours Range $25-$35 Hour, 16 Hours a week minimum
Hourly wage will be determined from an evaluation of the experience, education, and abilities of the applicant, along with internal and external benchmarks. Weekly hours will be determined by station needs, although a minimum of 16 hours weekly will be scheduled.
