Superintendent II (Tampa, FL) - Austin Commercial The purpose of this job is to provide overall direction and control of the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned job site. Depending on the size of the project, this position may either lead a project or oversee a designated portion of a larger project.

Responsibilities

Oversee and lead the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned job site.

In charge of overall safety at a job site, including implementation of safety plans and procedures.

Review record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schedules to determine the nature and scope of the project, materials, manpower requirements, equipment needs, etc.

Plan the physical layout of the job site with the project manager to use space effectively; initiate startup activities including site security preparations and utility hookups.

Designate areas for cranes and hoists, building material storage, parking, etc.

Direct field engineers in the initial survey and layout of the job site; ensure all dimensional control lines and elevations are correct and verified by certified third‑party surveyors before foundation work begins.

Plan daily and weekly activities for each craft, including detailed schedule forecasts, and provide technical instructions to foremen.

With the project manager, establish procedures for ordering self‑performed building materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers.

Inspect all field construction work in progress, including subcontracted work, and ensure high‑quality workmanship during each segment.

Provide technical guidance and assist in resolving day‑to‑day construction problems; investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and quality.

Assist the project manager in evaluating schedule and cost impacts.

Assist in the development of the manpower projection chart and monitor weekly labor costs for accuracy.

Assist in the development of the equipment projection chart and monitor equipment use, maintenance, and cost.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and codes relating to construction activities.

Manage scheduling of all governmental inspections necessary to obtain a certificate of occupancy.

Assume overall responsibility for employee health and safety including first aid areas, emergency treatment facilities, OSHA inspectors, and hazard correction.

Establish and maintain a good working relationship with owners, owner representatives, architects, consulting firms, and other parties.

Foster training and development of subordinates through on‑the‑job and company‑sponsored training.

Assume leadership role in career planning and development of project staff.

Perform tasks associated with project completion: punch lists, demobilization, as‑built documents, etc.

Maintain a detailed and accurate daily report of all field construction activities.

Administer the company’s Safety & Health Manual.

Requirements

B.S. in construction management, science, engineering or related discipline preferred; or equivalent combination of education (high school diploma) and experience.

Successful completion of OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may be obtained within first year).

6+ years of commercial construction field experience, including direct supervisory experience.

Proficient in reading plans and specifications.

Ability to build and manage high‑performing teams.
