Job Description The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) Dean’s Office is seeking a Communications Specialist to support the college’s communications mission. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the role will act as a skilled storyteller and editor across media platforms, creating content such as news articles, feature stories, press releases, e-newsletters, web copy, social media posts, and materials for students, families, alumni, donors and partners.

Collect information and produce communications that strategically promote all facets of CISA.

Work independently and collaboratively to write and edit content, ensuring consistency with AP style, ASU brand guidelines and accessibility standards.

Identify news, culture and consumer trends that intersect with college‑related research and activities, and develop story pitches accordingly.

Support strategic communications planning, including the development of themes, target audiences and desired outcomes.

Build relationships with ASU communicators and external partners to expand reach.

Prepare press releases, media pitches and monitoring reports.

Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive communications.

Participate in other duties and special projects as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

Experience interviewing, researching and writing long‑form and short‑form prose in higher‑education settings.

Ability to translate complex academic concepts into clear, audience‑appropriate content.

Advanced AP‑style copywriting and editing skills with evidence of SEO and accessibility considerations.

Proficiency in managing relationships with diverse collaborators and constituents.

Knowledge of public‑relations and media‑relations principles, including use of tools such as Cision or Muck Rack.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks against tight deadlines.

Experience with communication systems such as Mailchimp or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

Familiarity with collaborative project‑management tools (e.g., Wrike, Slack, Asana).

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and other Microsoft and Google suite applications.

Basic understanding of AI integration in communications work.

Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.

Schedule & Physical Demands Weekdays 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; evenings and weekends may be required occasionally. Work is performed in an office setting with extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and using a computer. Light physical activity such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds may occur.

Hybrid Work Hybrid arrangements are available with a minimum of 60% of the workweek at the primary ASU work location; approval from the Dean or Provost is required.
