About this Role The City and County of Denver is seeking a Director of Climate Action Policy to join the Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency (CASR) and play a crucial role in advancing the city’s climate action goals. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of CASR, the successful candidate will lead intergovernmental efforts to implement decarbonization policies and oversee a diverse portfolio focused on reducing carbon emissions through strategic initiatives. The Director will manage a team responsible for Denver’s Building Performance Standard and energy utility advocacy, as well as engage with a wide range of stakeholders to support policy development and execution.

Responsibilities

Provide expertise and consultative guidance on energy system decarbonization.

Oversee the implementation of Denver’s Building Performance Standard.

Coordinate participation in state-level regulatory proceedings.

Manage stakeholder input for legislative and regulatory matters.

Represent CASR in partnerships with other municipal departments.

Develop and implement strategic initiatives for decarbonization goals.

Mentor and support subordinate staff to achieve performance objectives.

Manage operating costs and project budgets effectively.

Ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and policies.

Requirements

Experience implementing government-directed climate mitigation policy initiatives.

Knowledgeable about building performance standards and transportation electrification systems.

Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

Experience in consensus-building and stakeholder engagement strategies.

Leadership experience in managing diverse teams and organizational change.

Ability to make informed strategic decisions impacting personnel and policy.
