Summary: The Lab Director is responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality testing, regulatory compliance, and efficient department management. This leadership role includes responsibility for budgeting, staff management, and technical oversight across laboratory services within an acute care setting.
Key Responsibilities • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets for the laboratory • Direct daily operations and ensure efficient workflow across all lab departments • Lead, hire, discipline, and manage laboratory staff • Ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance of laboratory testing • Oversee laboratory technical development, implementation, and integration • Support instrument acquisition, logistics, and laboratory information systems (LIS) integration • Ensure compliance with CLIA and regulatory standards • Collaborate with hospital leadership to align lab services with organizational goals • Perform additional duties as required
Must-Have Skills • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related health science • 5+ years of hospital laboratory experience with management responsibilities • Meets CLIA General Supervisor requirements • Certification (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or equivalent) • Strong leadership and team management skills
Required Skills • Budget management (operational and capital) • Laboratory operations oversight • Quality assurance and compliance • Staff supervision and performance management • Laboratory systems and process optimization
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills • Master’s degree in Healthcare or Business-related field • Prior Lab Director experience • Advanced certifications (ASCP/NCA preferred)
Industry Experience • Acute care hospital laboratory required
Education • Bachelor’s degree required • Master’s degree preferred
