
Director, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting

The Role:
We are seeking a highly collaborative and hands‑on Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting to build and lead our external reporting and SOX compliance infrastructure as a newly public biotechnology company. This role will establish scalable SEC reporting processes, design and document internal controls over financial reporting, and serve as the Company’s subject matter expert on complex accounting matters. The Director will work closely across the Finance organization and partner cross‑functionally throughout the company, driving alignment, accountability, and best practices through strong collaboration, clear communication, and influential leadership. This position will be located in Somerville, MA and be required to be onsite Monday‑Thursday each week.
Here’s how you will contribute:
Build and lead the Company’s SEC reporting process , including the preparation and timely filing of Forms 10‑K, 10‑Q, and other required disclosures. Establish reporting calendars and cross‑functional workflows to ensure accurate, complete, and timely filings.
Own the preparation and review of financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A , ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations. Partner closely with Legal, FP&A, Investor Relations, and senior leadership on earnings releases and public disclosures.
Serve as the Company’s technical accounting subject matter expert , leading research, evaluation, and documentation of complex accounting matters, including collaboration and licensing arrangements, revenue recognition, R&D activities, equity transactions, stock‑based compensation, and financing transactions.
Design and implement internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR)
as the Company builds toward full SOX compliance. Oversee and manage the external consulting firm supporting SOX program development, while partnering with process owners across Finance and other functions to lead walkthroughs, risk assessments, and control documentation. Ensure readiness for control testing and drive remediation efforts as needed.
Act as a highly collaborative and cross‑functional leader , partnering across Accounting, FP&A, Legal, R&D, HR, and executive leadership to establish scalable processes and ensure alignment. Drive accountability and results through influence, clear communication, and strong relationship‑building.
Serve as a key liaison to external auditors , supporting quarterly reviews, annual audits, and technical accounting discussions.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred.
Strong SEC reporting experience in a public company environment.
Experience building or significantly enhancing SOX compliance programs.
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations.
Experience in biotechnology, life sciences, or R&D‑intensive industries strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead through influence in cross‑functional environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.

Compensation: The base salary range provided reflects our current estimate of what we anticipate paying for this position. Your actual base salary will be based on several factors, including job‑related skills, experience, internal equity, relevant education or training, and market dynamics. In addition, you will be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and a competitive benefits package.
Per Year Salary Range $177,000 — $266,000 USD
