About This Role
Axsome Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Director, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) Analytics to lead the design and execution of real-world evidence (RWE) analytics in support of the value proposition of Axsome’s marketed products and pipeline assets. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Health Economics & Evidence Generation Strategy, the Senior Director, HEOR Analytics will provide hands-on technical expertise and day-to-day partnership with cross-functional teams. The Senior Director HEOR Analytics will oversee complex real-world data (RWD) analyses, ensure methodological rigor, and mentor a team with expertise in real world analysis design, execution, and interpretation. This role requires deep expertise in analyzing large-scale healthcare datasets—including administrative claims and electronic health records (EHR)—to generate insights that inform medical affairs, market access, and commercial strategies as needed. HEOR Analytics Lead will work in close partnership with HEOR Product Leads to develop fit-for-purpose analytical plans, with input from Medical Directors, Health Outcomes Liaison (HOL) team members, and other cross-functional partners as necessary. This role is based at Axone’s HQ in New York City with an on-site requirement of at least three days per week. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles. Job Responsibilities and Duties
Technical Leadership & Methodology
In partnership with HEOR Leads, design and execute observational research using real-world data sources (claims, EHR, registries) to assess disease burden, treatment patterns, real-world outcomes, and unmet needs
Develop advanced analytical approaches including predictive models, comparative effectiveness studies, causal inference frameworks, and longitudinal analyses Ensure methodological rigor in study design (e.g., propensity score matching, IPTW) and advanced statistical modeling Data Management & Analytics Execution
Lead the integration, management, and analysis of large healthcare databases, including Komodo, Symphony, MarketScan, and EHR databases
Implement data cleaning, transformation, and quality assurance processes for high-volume datasets Utilize programming languages (SAS, R and Python) to develop statistical models, generate outputs, and visualize results Partner with HEOR Leads and other internal stakeholders to shape Axsome’s real-world data strategy, including evaluating new datasets and potential partnerships Evidence Generation & Dissemination
Develop statistical analysis plans and oversee high-quality programming deliverables (analysis-ready datasets, tables, and figures) while establishing best practices across teams
Contribute to observational study protocols and analysis documents Author and co-author peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, and presentations Translate analytical findings into insights that support payer negotiations, value dossiers, medical strategies, and commercial planning Deliver clear, compelling presentations of technical results to non-technical stakeholders Leadership & Team Development
Manage and mentor a team of real-world evidence analysts, biostatisticians and data scientists, fostering technical excellence and innovation. Oversee resource planning, performance management, and career development for direct reports Drive best practices, innovation, and continuous improvements in HEOR analytics processes and methodologies Stay current on evolving RWE methodologies, regulatory guidance, and payer expectations; proactively educate internal partners Requirements / Qualifications
PhD or Master’s in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Economics, or related quantitative discipline 10+ years in HEOR/RWE analytics within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry Minimum of 5 years of people management, team leadership and mentoring experience Ability to work on site Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. Proven experience analyzing large-scale claims and EHR datasets Advanced proficiency in SAS, R, and/or Python for statistical programming Deep expertise in study design and advanced statistical methods (e.g., survival analysis, mixed models, machine learning) Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals Demonstrated success in using innovative analytical techniques to overcome real‑world data limitations. Knowledge of health economic modeling, patient-reported outcomes (PROs), and outcomes research methods preferred Ability to impact, influence, and interact with senior business leaders and partners Experience with payer evidence requirements, dissemination strategies, and reimbursement/access environments Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across departments and geographic locations Experience managing budget and resource allocation Ability to lead, collaborate, and influence in a matrix, fast-paced environment Flexible, adaptable, diplomatic, and comfortable navigating ambiguity Strong attention to detail with the ability to balance strategic and operational responsibilities Ability to manage multiple priorities aligned with program objectives Launch experience strongly preferred Salary & Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this role is $260,000 – $285,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there may be flexibility on final job title and responsibilities.
