Position Summary Media and Communication Technician: Social Media Specialist – part‑time student employee (up to 24 hours per week) supporting the Marine and Coastal Opportunities (MACO) office at Oregon State University. Responsibilities Develop and schedule content for MACO’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn), including graphics, short video reels, and other digital media. Engage with collaborators and the public to grow MACO’s following and impact. Keep abreast of current social media trends and maintain a professional, relevant online presence. Lead and implement the “MACO Connection Series” on social media with OSU partner units. Adhere to OSU branding guidelines and digital accessibility regulations. Create print and digital communication materials as requested (flyers, stickers, webpages, event forms, etc.). Coordinate closely with MACO staff and affiliated units. Represent MACO at outreach events, advising undergraduate peers on marine programs. Assist with public outreach and recruitment events. Provide general office support: organizing files, receiving packages, inventory management. Develop professional and leadership skills through MACO’s student‑employee program. Qualifications Current undergraduate student at Oregon State University, enrolled for at least 6 credit hours per term and in good academic standing. Proficiency with Canva, Meta Business Suite, Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and willingness to learn additional software. Experience in graphic design (flyers, stickers, social media posts). Experience editing images and videos, including short‑reel creation. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a 12‑passenger van (or willingness to learn). Clear criminal history and motor vehicle history checks per OSU policy. Preferred (Special) Qualifications Knowledge of MACO’s mission and familiarity with its social media presence. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal, or similar web platforms. Experience in website development and design. Familiarity with OSU branding and digital accessibility best practices. Demonstrated involvement in university extracurricular outreach activities. More than one year remaining in an undergraduate program at OSU. Working Conditions & Schedule 20 hours per week during the academic year, with potential increase to 24 hours based on project needs. 15–20 hours during the summer term (June–September); may increase to 24 hours. Work is primarily on campus, with occasional remote work allowed. Typical hours Monday–Friday; flexible to accommodate class schedules. Periodic evening and weekend availability may be required. No set end date; position remains open until filled and suitable. Periodic travel to Hatfield Marine Science Center may be required.
