Job Summary The Assistant Director for Instructional Design, Engagement and Assistance (IDEA), under the supervision of the Director of Instructional Design, will support the development of innovative online courses and programs, provide personalized technical and pedagogical faculty support, manage faculty and student feedback collection and reporting, and supervise the Instructional Technology Coordinator and the Instructional Technology Specialist. The role will focus on managing online course technologies and faculty development within the Learning Management System (LMS) for AU Online (AUO) courses, ensuring that experiences meet institutional expectations for rigor, quality, and scalability.
Responsibilities
Provide Premium Support For Instructors
Consult with faculty on best practices in online teaching.
Maintain a scheduled communication with faculty for support and encouragement.
Address faculty requests promptly.
Collect instructor feedback on courses and share with the Director.
Recommend course changes via Mojo Helpdesk.
Maintain a log of faculty-requested changes to course sections and primary shells.
Employ a coaching stance for teaching observations and support.
Produce And Manage Faculty Development Resources And Opportunities
Conduct needs assessments to determine faculty development needs.
Lead the development and implementation of faculty development opportunities, including online resources, just‑in‑time modules, professional learning communities, and synchronous sessions.
Collaborate with IDEA team members and university faculty to develop instructor resources.
Generate detailed reports of faculty engagement for the Director.
Manage the faculty recognition program.
Implement a faculty communication plan.
Manage Faculty And Student Feedback Collection And Reporting
Facilitate course and AUO experience feedback from faculty and students.
Report data to the Director regularly.
Make recommendations to the IDEA Team based on feedback.
Serve as the voice of faculty in IDEA Team discussions.
Supervise the Instructional Technology Coordinator and Specialist
Approve time off and related matters within OneUSG.
Provide support and coaching on time management.
Establish collaborative relationships with the two roles.
Update the Director weekly on projects, workload, and performance.
Ensure work plans and logs are accessible to the Director.
Mentor direct reports in professional growth.
Ongoing Professional Growth
Continuously improve knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to faculty development and course data collection.
Present or publish scholarship related to educational technology, instructional design, higher education, and learning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications A master’s degree from an accredited institution in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field, plus at least five years of experience supporting faculty and online education in higher education, including three or four years of teaching in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in higher education of five or more years, with successful online or hybrid teaching.
Demonstrated success improving teaching, learning, and LMS usage with faculty and staff.
Proficiency with learning management systems, visual presentation software, online collaboration tools, and web authoring tools.
Experience developing and facilitating professional development for faculty.
Experience managing direct reports.
Experience collecting student and faculty data to inform continuous improvement.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Adult learning theory and its application to online teaching.

Basic learning analytics.

Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday (outside normal business hours may be required).
Pay Band: B14.
Salary: Minimum $75,300 annually – Midpoint $80,000 annually. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
