APD Claim Representative II (Michigan) – The Auto Club Group
Reports to: APD Claim Manager I
What you will do: Primary Duties & Responsibilities As an Auto Claim Representative II, you will handle moderately complex claims within Claim Handling Standards in the field or inside units. Your duties include resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims. You will review assigned claims, contact insured and other parties, set expectations, initiate documentation in the claim handling system, complete policy coverage analysis, identify all possible policyholder benefits, create additional sub‑claims if needed, refer complex claims to management or appropriate handlers, conduct investigations, determine applicability of state law and other factors, evaluate the financial value of the loss, approve payments, refer claims to other company units when necessary, and document and/or code the claim file for closure. For the APD claim unit, you will settle total losses, inspect vehicles, prepare damage estimates, manage Direct Repair Shops when in the DRS Examiner role, determine damage causes, establish liability, identify subrogation potential, monitor repairs, approve car rental expenses, and may handle simple APD litigation cases.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Required Qualifications Education
Completion of the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge/experience
Where an Adjuster’s license is required, eligibility to acquire the state license within 90 days of hire and maintenance thereafter
Valid driver's license if primary duties involve in‑person inspections or frequent meetings with members
Experience
One year of experience in negotiating claim settlements
Securing and evaluating evidence
Preparing manual and electronic estimates
Managing subrogation claims and identifying recovery opportunities
Resolving coverage questions
Taking statements
Establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims
Knowledge and Skills
Essential Insurance Act (Michigan)
Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims
Subrogation procedures and processes
Intercompany arbitration/dispute resolution

Ability to

Follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures, and guidelines
Work within assigned ACG Claim systems, basic PC software
Perform basic claim file review and investigations
Communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Provide customer service, build and maintain relationships with insureds/claimants, and respond to concerns
Analyze and solve problems, make sound decisions, and prioritize claim‑related functions
Process time‑sensitive data from multiple sources
Manage time, organize, and plan workload and responsibilities
Safely operate a motor vehicle to visit repair facilities, homes, and other locations
Research, analyze, and interpret subrogation laws in various states
Travel outside the assigned territory, including overnight stays
Relocate, work evenings or weekends if required
Demonstrate strong negotiating skills
Preferred Qualifications Education
Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or related field, or equivalent work experience
Completion of the Insurance Institute of America’s General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent
CPCU coursework or designation
I‑Car 2000 training
CCC training
Xactware training
Work Environment This position is currently able to work remotely from a home office for day‑to‑day operations unless occasional travel for meetings, collaboration, or team building is specified by leadership. The arrangement is subject to change based on amendments to the ACG Flex Work policy.
Regular and reliable attendance is essential for the function of this job.
