Real Estate Appraisal Reviewer

Overview Position: Real Estate Appraisal Reviewer for the Bureau of Design and Delivery’s Right-of-Way, Utilities, and Grade Crossing Division, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

The role involves reviewing real estate appraisals of all types of real property for public use.

Key Responsibilities

Review real estate and Machinery & Equipment appraisals submitted by field units.

Provide technical guidance to ensure conformance to accepted appraisal techniques and requirements.

Ensure assignments are completed in adherence to established policies, procedures, and the Right of Way Manual (Pub. 378).

Make determinations of compensable elements of damages before, during, and after value assessments.

Perform appraisal reviews within a specified area, adjusting assignments as needed by district requirements.

Work Schedule and Benefits

Full-time employment.

Work hours: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch break.

Location: Harrisburg Central Office with flexibility to float across a region; office space assigned in an appropriate geographical area.

Telework: Up to 50% of the work schedule, subject to a secure high‑speed internet connection and approval for a Pennsylvania‑based location.

Salary: Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training:

1 year as a General Real Estate Appraiser (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title) or

3 years of professional real estate appraisal experience, including 1 year appraising all types of real property for public use.

Hold an active Pennsylvania Certified General Appraiser certification.

Hold a valid motor vehicle license.

Meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.

Be able to perform essential job functions.

Veterans Preference Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for many state and local government jobs.
