Position Summary The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of commercial construction projects in the field. You will ensure projects are built on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a hands-on approach to managing labor, logistics, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Supervision
Direct and manage all on-site construction activities and personnel.
Coordinate subcontractor work schedules and ensure adequate labor and resources are maintained to meet schedule demands.
Lead weekly jobsite meetings with subcontractors, architects, engineers, and the Owner.
Supervise and mentor on-site teams to ensure timely and high-quality work with minimal punch lists.
Scheduling & Logistics
Develop and maintain the overall project schedule, including weekly safety inspections and a “3-week look-ahead” plan.
Adjust schedules proactively to address delays and coordinate delivery logistics to prevent bottlenecks.
Manage access, security, and materials handling according to building protocols and tenant needs.
Reporting & Documentation
Complete daily jobsite reports outlining progress, issues, labor, and deliveries.
Report all field conditions, changes, and discrepancies to the Project Manager weekly.
Assist with field measurements, logistics planning, and ensuring drawings align with site conditions.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce company and OSHA safety standards at all times.
Attend ongoing safety training and remain informed on best practices.
Address and resolve safety incidents immediately, documenting and reporting as necessary.
Stakeholder Coordination
Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, building managers, and engineers.
Act as the on-site representative of Sullivan Construction, ensuring professionalism and positive engagement with all stakeholders.
Cost Control & Quality
Monitor jobsite general conditions and minimize unnecessary expenses.
Recommend overtime and adjust labor based on site needs and budget constraints.
Review subcontractor and vendor invoices, recommending approval or revisions to the Project Manager.
Close-Out & Support
Manage punch list completion and obtain final acceptance documentation from clients and architects.
Support the estimating and project management teams by reviewing bid documents for field logistics and scope feasibility.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in commercial construction field supervision.
Proven ability to lead crews and manage subcontractors in fast-paced environments.
Deep understanding of construction sequencing, building systems, and code compliance.
Proficient in reading blueprints and interpreting construction documents.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
OSHA 30 certification preferred.
