Pharmacy Purchasing Agent (Job Number: 260001AA)
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for supervising Pharmacy Technicians and support staff and coordinating workflow and services related to drug and equipment/supplies procurement processes. This position may also involve assisting with other aspects of the pharmacy department’s operation including but not limited to: Sterile Compounding, Delivery of Medications to Nursing Units, and Non-sterile Compounding. These duties are performed under the supervision of a pharmacist. This position shall not be responsible for any duty that can only be done legally by a pharmacist.
Essential Functions
Ensure inventory is adequate to meet the needs of day-to-day operations
Manage all aspects of daily medication orders from wholesaler
Place specialty drug orders through outside vendors
Ensure all medication barcodes are in the formulary database to support BCMA for patient safety
Monitor, communicate and manage drug shortages with staff
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and contract compliance
Optimize inventory management with par level adjustments to avoid stock outs and reduce waste
Record necessary information for compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act
Coordinate and maintain timely flow of purchasing and receipts with Accounting or Finance
Maintain oversight of emergency supplies
Act as a resource for other technicians regarding training of pharmacy staff
Effectively and accurately perform the duties of a certified pharmacy technician within the drug distribution operations and serve as a backup to the supervisor in times of absence
Evaluate purchasing group contracts
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
License:
Issued by Florida or Compact State
Work Experience:
3 years of Pharmacy Technician experience required
