Role Summary

We are seeking a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) – Operations to serve as a strategic finance partner to Operations leadership across a nationwide, multi‑unit veterinary practice platform. This role is critical to helping our organization scale sustainably while delivering exceptional care to pets and their families.

The Director will lead operational financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis across hundreds of veterinary practices, translating complex data into clear insights that drive profitability, efficiency, and informed decision‑making. This is a highly visible role with direct exposure to senior leadership and meaningful impact on business outcomes.

What You’ll Do Strategic Finance Partnership

Act as the primary FP&A partner to Operations leadership, including Regional and Group leaders.

Provide actionable financial insights to support operational decisions related to staffing, productivity, pricing, service mix, and growth initiatives.

Present financial analyses and recommendations to executive leadership in a clear, compelling manner.

Planning, Forecasting & Analysis

Lead annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long‑range planning for field operations.

Develop and maintain driver‑based financial models aligned to key operational metrics (e.g., visits, hours, labor mix, provider productivity).

Analyze performance versus budget, forecast, and prior year, identifying root causes and opportunities for improvement.

Performance Management & Reporting

Own operational KPI reporting, including revenue per visit, labor cost %, contribution margin, capacity utilization, and same‑practice growth.

Design and standardize dashboards and reporting tools for executives, regional leaders, and practice operations.

Improve forecast accuracy and financial transparency across the organization.

Business Case & ROI Evaluation

Build business cases and ROI models for operational investments, including staffing changes, new services, workflow improvements, and technology initiatives.

Partner with Operations, Strategy, and IT on post‑implementation reviews to ensure value realization.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Work closely with Accounting to align forecasting and planning with actual financial results.

Partner with HR on headcount planning, labor strategy, and compensation modeling.

Support integration and scalability initiatives related to acquisitions and new practice onboarding.

Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of FP&A managers and analysts supporting Operations.

Establish best practices for financial modeling, reporting, and analytical rigor.

Build a strong culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Experience & Skills Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred).

8–12+ years of progressive FP&A or corporate finance experience, with a strong focus on operational finance.

Experience supporting multi‑unit, field‑based operations (healthcare, veterinary, retail, hospitality, or other service‑driven industries preferred).

Proven ability to influence senior leaders through data‑driven insights and strong business partnering.

Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with BI tools and enterprise financial systems.

Demonstrated people leadership experience, including developing high‑performing teams.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex financial concepts for non‑finance audiences.
