The Role:
This is an onsite position in Torrance, CA.
The Director, Finance is responsible for the financial oversight of assigned ministries, including monitoring financial performance, variance reporting, supporting the achievement of productivity and supply chain targets, and participating in ministry‑level management meetings.
This role serves as a key liaison to accounts payable and payroll processes in support of managers and senior leaders throughout the ministries. The Director, Finance assists with facilitation of capital projects prioritized through regional and system processes and, as part of the regional finance team, supports development of ministry budgets and long‑term financial strategies.
Additional responsibilities include development and management of dashboards, achievement of internal audit recommendations, leading special projects at the ministry and regional level, and reviewing monthly financial statements. The Director partners closely with the PSJH accounting team to ensure accurate reflection of the economics supporting operational and clinical services.
What You'll Do: Financial Oversight & Stewardship
Assist the Service Area Chief Financial Officer, senior operational leaders, and other executives in financial oversight of assigned ministries.
Monitor financial performance to ensure achievement of financial targets.
Assist in the production of accurate financial statements reflective of operational and clinical services, including contractual analysis, net income recording, and accurate expense accruals.
Review and monitor statistical information to ensure accurate representation of operational and clinical services.
Budgeting & Strategic Financial Planning
Collaborate with the regional finance team in the budget development and strategic financial planning process.
Work with ministry department managers and senior leaders to perform variance analysis and develop and implement improvement plans.
Coordinate with ministry administrators on monthly financial review processes.
Assist with review of service line (Institute) financial information to support operational planning and understanding of service‑line economics.
Productivity, Projects & Performance Improvement
Support productivity management through measurement, target setting, benchmarking, and implementation of staffing matrices.
Lead special projects as assigned and perform additional duties as needed.
Support achievement of internal audit recommendations and development of dashboards to track performance.
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with finance team members across the system to share best practices and support system‑wide initiatives.
Partner with regional leadership to ensure consistent standards of care, employee performance, and financial management processes that meet accreditation and regulatory requirements.
Provide leadership to ensure the finance function is understood across the organization and broader community.
Communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization to foster mutual respect, openness, and collaboration.
What You'll Bring: Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Certified Public Accountant (preferred)
HFMA or FACHE (preferred)
Experience
8+ years in a leadership role or capacity
10+ years of closely related finance experience
Financial & Analytical Expertise
Strong ability to analyze and interpret financial and statistical data
Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and sound judgment
Ability to investigate, evaluate, and present findings and recommendations
Knowledge of financial principles and effective application in healthcare environments
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Ability to deliver presentations in live, virtual, and online formats

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.
