Head of Non-Life Portfolio Management

About the Role We are seeking a highly analytical and strategically minded professional to join the Non Life CUO Office as a key advisor to the Group Non Life Chief Underwriting Officer. The role is central to shaping the Non Life portfolio, driving strategic planning, enhancing underwriting decision‑making tools, and promoting best practices across the organization. This position reports directly to the Group Non Life CUO and collaborates closely with underwriting teams, analytics, the CUO Office, and divisional CEOs.

Responsibilities

Support the CUO in planning and monitoring the shape, size and performance of the Non‑Life portfolio across lines of business and geographies.

Analyze gross and net underwriting portfolios to assess profitability, earnings volatility, and capital efficiency.

Lead the design of tools to improve underwriting decisions and monitor related metrics and accumulations.

Coordinate and contribute to Business Reviews for select portfolios and lines of business.

Collaborate with underwriting teams and leaders to understand deviations from plan, loss drivers, or emerging risks.

Act as a strategic partner to the CUO: offer challenge, support decision‑making, and prepare for key meetings.

Follow up with teams to ensure timely execution of CUO‑relevant action items.

Prepare high‑quality materials for the Board and Senior Management, ensuring clarity, accuracy and alignment.

Education

University degree in a relevant field (Actuarial, Finance, Business, Engineering, or related). For candidates with more than 10 years of experience, adjustments may be considered.

Experience

5–15 years of experience in underwriting, actuarial, or portfolio analysis within non‑life reinsurance, ideally across multiple lines.

Strong understanding of portfolio performance metrics and the financial implications of underwriting decisions.

Experience preparing executive‑level materials and facilitating cross‑functional discussions.

Skills & Qualities

Strong analytical mindset: able to interpret complex data and draw actionable insights.

Effective communicator who can translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise messages.

Strategic thinker with a solid grasp of both underwriting execution and long‑term portfolio steering.

Collaborative and proactive team player comfortable navigating a matrixed organization.

Self‑starter with strong project‑management capabilities and impeccable attention to detail.

Naturally curious, eager to learn new topics and form new relationships continuously.

Proficiency in Excel; additional data analysis tools (e.g. Power BI) is a plus.
