What You’ll Do The Benefits Customer Service Representative performs comprehensive personnel and clerical tasks within the employee benefits function. This role involves managing data transactions and process flows across various benefit areas, serving as a point of contact for employees, supervisors, and external entities regarding benefit plan service and delivery. The Benefits Customer Service Representative maintains meticulous manual and automated benefit records, handles sensitive and confidential personnel information, and prepares reports in compliance with federal and state regulations and company policies. This position requires providing guidance to employees at all levels, often involving the interpretation of policies and procedures.
Manage data transactions and process flows for various employee benefit functional areas.
Serve as a direct interface with employees, supervisors, and external organizations concerning benefit plan services and delivery.
Maintain accurate manual and automated employee benefit records, ensuring compliance with record‑keeping requirements and company policy.
Collect, compile, and manage sensitive and confidential personnel information, preparing reports as needed.
Furnish information to authorized persons and/or agencies in accordance with federal and state regulations and company policies.
Provide guidance to all levels of employees on personnel policies and procedures, including interpretation of guidelines.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of benefit actions, making applicable changes within company systems.
Collaborate with organizations to address Human Resources questions related to employee benefit plans.
Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the benefits function.
Adapt to new methods and procedures, demonstrating flexibility in response to process changes.
Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
Associate degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.

Excellent customer service skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve problems.
Proficiency in operating computer‑related equipment and associated software, particularly Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
General knowledge and understanding of Human Resources policies and procedures, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
Demonstrated initiative and persistence in seeking solutions when obstacles arise.
General understanding of federal regulations such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Security & Clearance Requirements
Requires a Q clearance; all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence‑scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
