Commonlands LLC specializes in high-performance and cost-effective optical solutions, including M12 and C-Mount lenses, as well as related accessories. Our products are widely utilized across industries such as surveillance, robotics, IoT, smart retail, and factory automation.
Role Description As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining client relationships by providing technical expertise and support during the sales process. Key responsibilities include understanding customer needs, showcasing tailored technical solutions, resolving technical inquiries, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure customer satisfaction. You will also be expected to achieve sales targets and contribute to identifying new market opportunities.
This sales role supports our customers across the world in Europe, Japan, South Korea and India. Our industry has a long 6-12mo+ sales cycle so we expect ongoing and long-term relationship building. Expect to develop 5-10 large accounts while supporting >50 smaller accounts which are asynchronous but still need technical support.
Responsibilities
Business Development and Sales: Develop new business through outbound contact, converting inbound opportunities, and developing existing accounts.
Technical Problem Solving: Learn the technical side of our products so that you can propose solutions in real-time when talking with customers.
Client Relations: Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with our customers. This is not a
Account Management: Manage quotes, orders, and ongoing account communication.
Travel: Visit clients across the world and meet customers at industry tradeshows. Travel of 10%-25% is expected.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline (or 3-5 years direct optics/camera industry experience)
Driven, goal oriented, and high velocity
Friendly and outgoing
Demonstrated ability to learn engineering technical topics and communicate these concisely.
Qualifications that will help your application but aren't required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Robotics, or Computer Science
1-3 years of experience at a technology or engineering-centric company
1-3 years of experience in account management or a sales role
Fluency of deal pipeline management to enable your own sales
Knowledge of solution sales and negotiations
Experience with outbound prospecting
History of closing deals to successfully meet sales targets

Notes about the position This is an in person role in Kearny Mesa Monday-Friday, when not travelling for customer-related activities. Relocation to San Diego is available if you are located more than 50 miles driving distance.
