ABC7 KGO-TV is the Bay Area’s news leader, delivering breaking news, weather and live video on‑air and 24/7 wherever you stream. Producing more than 45 hours of live newscasts every week, ABC7 Eyewitness News is widely recognized for its solution‑based journalism and advocacy with legacy franchises Seven on Your Side, I‑Team, and Building a Better Bay Area. ABC7 is a respected and valued community resource; KGO‑TV is an ABC‑Owned Television Station serving San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and the greater Bay Area.

The ideal candidate is a passionate storyteller, brilliant multi‑platform content creator, effective communicator, and proven collaborator, with a strong editorial background in a breaking news environment and active use of social media for newsgathering. They must be proficient with consumer & prosumer digital cameras, non‑linear desktop editing, and be able to shoot, write, edit visually creative, memorable stories with active live reporting. The candidate must also pitch original stories, develop contacts within the community, and bring a positive attitude and receptiveness to feedback. This person must be organized and work well under pressure and constant deadlines, with a demonstrated ability to move the audience between linear and digital platforms.

Responsibilities

Turn stories daily for newscasts, the station’s website, and the 24/7 stream.

Develop and pitch original stories, and maintain an active presence on social media.

Shoot, write, edit and produce stories using lightweight digital cameras, cell phones, and non‑linear desktop editing platforms.

Appear live from the field during the station’s newscasts.

Work collaboratively with the editorial team and adapt stories for both linear and digital formats.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years of experience in a top‑50 market.

Excellent writing skills, solid news judgment and ethical decision‑making skills.

Ability to shoot video and edit stories for linear and digital on non‑linear desktop editing platforms.

Proficiency in operating handheld prosumer/consumer cameras and non‑linear editing for linear and digital.

Superior on‑camera presentation; candidates should include a reel.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual is beneficial.

Knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Education

Journalism or Communications degree.

Collective Bargaining and Benefits This position is covered under the Company’s collective bargaining agreement with SAG‑AFTRA. The hiring range for this SAG‑AFTRA role in San Francisco, CA is 90,948 to 160,000 USD per year. The base pay may vary depending on geographic region, candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional compensation for overtime and early morning/overnight shifts may be available. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
