
Product Stewardship Advisor

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
The Product Stewardship Advisor serves as the single point of contact to internal stakeholders within the Global Architectural business on regulatory, product safety, and sustainability matters. The scope of the business includes the company's store operations and retail customer distribution channels, primarily within North America but also with a global perspective. The Advisor drives continuous improvement through project work and process development.
1 COMPLIANCE SUPPORT
Regulations and regulation reviews
Evaluates new or changing regulations as to impact and provides updates to internal teams
Acts as the regional expert internally to advise on how/why regulations are different or conflicting
Participates in development of action plans collaboratively with Global Architectural Product Stewardship team members
Executes actions/projects to support compliance strategies within the Global Architectural business
Company representation
Acts as Sherwin‑Williams’ Product Stewardship representative with outside parties such as trade associations, service provider working groups or professional associations
Data entry/integrity and systems support
Defines business rules for technology systems evaluating product compliance data
Responsible for evaluating system output to ensure compliance accuracy
2 CUSTOMER AND BUSINESS SUPPORT
Inquiries
Independently responds to routine requests from stakeholders within the Global Architectural business
Collaborates with Legal as needed to respond to non‑routine, complex requests from internal stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies
Business support
Serves as the single point of contact within the Global Architectural business on legislative, regulatory and product safety/sustainability issues that pertain to their assigned portfolio of products
Organizes periodic meetings with business partners to discuss compliance matters and provide regulatory updates
Collaborates with R&D, Marketing, Sales, Customers and other stakeholders on product stewardship matters
Provides training on new or changing regulations to internal staff or external customers and clarifies impacted parts of the business
Develops formal communications and provides input on formal communications of others
Completes requests for new or updated product labels and advises business stakeholders on appropriate and compliant language per FHSA, CCCR requirements and industry norms
3 CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Process improvements
Identifies areas of process improvement and enhanced communication within the Global Architectural business and the Product Stewardship team
Identifies opportunities for greater alignment and consistency in practices between parts of the Global Architectural business, such as Sherwin‑Williams store and retail customer operations
Acts as regulatory representative on IT projects that require system upgrades, enhancements, or changes
Projects
Drives continuous improvement projects focused on cross‑functional or regional improvements that address gaps or increase efficiency or collaboration
Leads more complex product stewardship projects and represents the Product Stewardship workstream in less complex, cross‑functional projects
Training
Provides training and seminars for business team members or other groups on current trends in product stewardship
Educates business partners on specific aspects of regulations covering impacted products and recommended next steps
Trains and supports the development of new or less experienced Product Stewardship team members consistent with their technical expertise
This role will report to Sherwin‑Williams Global Headquarters located at 1 Sherwin Way, Cleveland, OH 44113, USA; IL Chicago Office 8725 W Higgins Rd. Chicago IL 60631, USA; MN Minneapolis Campus 1101 South 3rd Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415.
Job duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value. Such access may be supervised or unsupervised. POSITION REQUIREMENTS FORMAL EDUCATION Required:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or similar
Preferred:
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or similar
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Required:
5+ years of experience in product stewardship or regulatory affairs
Expertise in U.S. chemical product regulations
Paint and coatings, formulated products, chemicals, or materials industry work experience
Preferred:
8+ years of experience in product stewardship or regulatory affairs
Experience with global regulatory requirements
2+ years of experience working with consumer product labeling regulations, such as FHSA and CCCR
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS Required:
Knowledge of basic chemistry
Proficient presentation skills
Proficiency in regulatory and labeling software
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
Preferred:
Knowledge of applied chemistry
Architectural paint product stewardship expertise
Experience in interpretation of regulations
Knowledge of FHSA and CCCR regulations
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS 10% time spent away from home or other typical office location.
