Director of AI – Honeywell
As a Director of AI, you will set the strategic direction and ensure successful delivery of our AI technology projects. You will collaborate with senior executives and cross‑functional teams to align IT project strategies with business objectives, driving innovation and ensuring projects meet quality, budget, and timeline expectations.
Location: Phoenix, AZ or Charlotte, NC (Hybrid work schedule).
You will report directly to the Senior Director of IT.
Responsibilities AI Research & Strategy
Lead AI research strategy and innovation initiatives, identifying long‑term opportunities and breakthrough technologies for enterprise adoption.
Evaluate emerging AI/ML technologies, frameworks, and industry trends to determine feasibility, readiness, and enterprise value.
Conduct applied research in areas such as generative AI, agentic AI, predictive modeling, enterprise automation, and intelligent systems.
AI Solution Design & Prototyping
Design and prototype advanced AI/ML solutions, models, and architectures that address complex business challenges.
Develop proof‑of‑concept (PoC) and experimental models that validate technical direction and inform future productization.
Translate research outcomes into scalable, secure, and enterprise‑ready technical solutions.
Technical Leadership (Without Direct Reports)
Guide technical direction across teams without direct people leadership, influencing engineering, digital product teams, and IT stakeholders.
Act as a senior technical advisor for AI adoption, model lifecycle design, experimentation standards, and responsible AI implementation.
Partner with domain experts, data scientists, and architects to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and strategic priorities.
Enterprise Collaboration & Innovation Enablement
Collaborate with senior executives and cross‑functional partners to ensure AI research initiatives align with Honeywell’s business goals and technology strategy.
Work with innovation hubs, the AI University, and functional teams to accelerate prototyping, experimentation, and responsible scaling.
Advocate for enterprise governance, security, and compliance in all AI‑related research.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics).
8+ years of experience in IT project management, including at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
Strong leadership skills with ability to inspire and mentor a high‑performing team.
Proven track record of successfully delivering complex IT projects, meeting quality, budget, and timeline expectations.
Exceptional problem‑solving skills and ability to make critical decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
Deep technical expertise in AI/ML research, applied machine learning, or advanced computational modeling.
Strong knowledge of emerging AI technologies, generative AI models, LLMs, agentic systems, and modern ML frameworks.
Proven experience designing and prototyping AI/ML solutions at an enterprise scale.
Preferred
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
8+ years of relevant experience in IT project management.
Demonstrated success in driving digital transformation and strategic IT initiatives.
Strong analytical and data‑driven decision‑making abilities.
Passion for staying current with emerging industry trends and best practices.
Understanding of UX principles to ensure AI solutions are intuitive, usable, and human‑centered.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to influence without direct authority.
Experience in high‑tech, aerospace, industrial, or safety‑critical environments is a plus.
