Hybrid on-campus/remote work schedule possible with supervisor approval. Responsibilities
Coordinate and supervise the College of Engineering’s advising program for students on academic probation and conditionally-admitted transfer students. Directly supervise ESS advising staff and coordinate with department advising staff. Advise a caseload of students as needed. Collaborate across constituencies to develop and implement practical solutions related to advising. Facilitate the exchange of academic advising information among all concerned parties. Lead college-wide student success initiatives in collaboration with CoE senior administration. Provide input to the strategic direction for the Engineering Success Services unit (ESS), encompassing student advising, co-op education and internships, career services, mentorship programs, and other college-wide student success efforts. Develop, implement, manage, and assess complex student success/retention initiatives aligned with College & Unit Goals; ensure program objectives are met. Plan and manage the College of Engineering’s advising program for students on academic probation and conditionally-admitted transfer students. Develop and maintain the content of a Canvas program to guide these groups of students toward return to good standing. Manage transitions for FTIC students from the Division of Student Success (DSS) advising to the College of Engineering, with in-good-standing students transitioning to their departments and others retained by ESS Advising; manage transitions for students who fail to meet department requirements to ESS Advising. Share in advising a caseload of over 800 students with other ESS Advising advisors; serve as back-up for area advisors when necessary and handle other advisors’ caseloads when they are on leave. Supervise a team of advisors in ESS. Train new advisors joining ESS Advising and participate in training new college/department academic advisors. Plan, develop and implement initiatives to improve the overall student experience; manage the impact of Early Alerts on ESS Advising and department advisors. Develop strategies to adapt to changes in the university’s plans for academic coaching. Update yearly ESS unit strategic plan. Initiate and lead data-driven analyses and decision-making for the student success agenda in the CoE as assigned by senior administration; develop within ESS. Examine advisor caseloads and participate in planning changes to acceptance criteria for conditionally-admitted transfer students. Serve on College and University committees and councils, including the University Academic Advising Committee. Work with the VP for Academic Advising and Engineering Associate Dean on programs affecting the college. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field with seven (7) years of advising students & leading student success programs. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field with three (3) years of experience advising students. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with Peoplesoft. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to adapt to new requirements and situations quickly. A working knowledge of effective student success principles. Demonstrated experience and knowledge leading and assessing intrusive advising programs and model. Working knowledge of and experience analyzing student success data to formulate effective retention initiatives for underserved populations. Other Requirements
