These ranges reflect what BNSF Railway reasonably expects to pay for this position, based on the role’s level, scope, and responsibilities. Final compensation and position level will be determined by factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. About the Team BNSF’s
Marketing
team serves as a primary contact for all BNSF customers, working to make the shipping experience as easy and seamless as possible. From onboarding new customers to handling rate and service requests to answering billing questions, the Marketing team is focused on building strong customer relationships and ensuring effective communication throughout the shipping process. The team is organized into several critical business units to cater to diverse customer needs and industry demands: Agriculture and Energy, Consumer Products, and Industrial products, alongside specialized units for Customer Support, Forecasting, and Planning. Each of these units plays a role in tailoring our marketing strategies and services to meet the unique requirements of our wide-ranging customer base, ensuring a comprehensive and responsive approach to customer service and engagement.
Role Type and Work Environment This is a full-time position located in Columbus, Ohio. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Our leaders also foster a culture where work-life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected.
Travel:
Travel is as needed, with potential travel in excess of 50% of the time. Travel is likely a combination of air travel or ground transportation based on regional presence within three hours of a regional base. Expected travel includes miscellaneous meetings outside the region (e.g., industry events, trade shows, staff meetings, customer hub tours).
Key Responsibilities
Maintain responsibility for an assigned sales region focused on consumer products and other packaged goods shippers (Beneficial Cargo Owners, BCOs).
Manage a diverse portfolio of customers (large, small, existing, new) with a primary focus on converting over-the-road full-truckload (OTR) business to intermodal via BNSF contracted domestic/ocean carrier partners. Track and update territory plans, account strategies, and account profiles utilizing IMS templates.
Successfully onboard newly identified accounts, also known as prospecting, cold calling or “grass-root” account development. Determine and develop new account profiles, then initiate strategic conversations with key decision makers.
Utilize consultative selling skills to grow portfolio volume and influence key BCO decisions including but not limited to: co-location at
ear BNSF IMFs, BIG, transportation modal conversion to BNSF IMDL, and sustainability.
Demonstrate strategic communications to build and maintain relationships within BNSF as well as with customers and carrier partners to share the BNSF story and value prop messaging across various services (e.g., Quantum, BNSF service products, BNSF Supply Chain Summit). Capture key intelligence and appropriate escalation that influences business outcomes and supports BNSF’s service performance.
Collaborate with various teams within BNSF, including Truckload/IMC, International, and Marketing Support functions, as well as partnering with Economic Development to co-locate BCOs in close proximity of BNSF Logistics Parks and intermodal hubs.
Represent BNSF by actively participating in local traffic clubs and CSCMP chapters.
Daily work is conducted in an indoor office environment or remotely.
Relocation assistance may be provided if there is a business need.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, with preference in Business, Marketing (B2B), Economics, Supply Chain, or Industrial Engineering.
A minimum of 3 years of work experience in rail operations or a related industry.

Preferred Qualifications

2 years of professional work experience in Sales, Marketing, Operations, Transportation/Logistics or Supply Chain.
3 years of professional work experience in sales with demonstrated results across a mix of large, medium and small growth companies.
Working knowledge of BNSF's and the railroad industry's operational, business, and interline system environment.
General understanding of BNSF and the North American rail network.
General understanding of both domestic and international intermodal.
Ability to leverage existing public sites & databases such as LinkedIn, Salesforce, D&B, etc.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suites and Salesforce.
