The Regional Market Leader (Group Manager 1) provides overall direction and leadership for the Aviation work program for airports within the West Region. This role executes a work program across all phases of a project lifecycle, providing strategic direction, operational excellence, financial management, and team and stakeholder relationship management. Responsibilities include driving contracting, business development, and comprehensive risk management to meet or exceed contractual and financial targets. Travel within the region and some national travel may be required to support the Vertical Market’s strategic initiatives. Key governance: Autonomy & Decision Making — makes most decisions and guides subordinate managers; Career Path — Group Manager 2. Key Role Responsibilities – Core
Safety: Lead the company’s safety culture and promote an injury-free environment through personal actions and mentoring others. Corporate Leadership: Support senior management with strategy development and company-wide initiatives, best practices, and policies within the work program. Strategy Development: Provide strategic direction aligned with broader work program plans across the project lifecycle. Client Relationship: Act as the primary client relationship executive at a leadership level, building long-term relationships to create new opportunities and repeat wins. Business Development: Develop and execute the business development strategy to grow the work program, including lead qualification, RFP responses, win strategy, contract review, risk mitigation, and maximizing margin and revenue. Risk Management: Serve as escalation point for project, financial, contractual, and client relationship risks; resolve issues during the project lifecycle and escalate as needed. Subcontractor Strategy: Build relationships with subcontractors, select qualified partners, and execute subcontractor strategy for program success. Preconstruction: Lead preconstruction discussions with clients at a leadership level; develop estimates, schedules, staffing plans, and business plans in collaboration with partners. Project Schedule: Oversee project reviews to ensure contractual obligations are met and team accountability remains high. Resource Management: Ensure staffing aligns with contractual commitments and project needs; adjust as needed to achieve results. Community & Industry: Represent the organization in community and industry relations, promoting company interests. Diversity: Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion in accordance with policy. Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and on time. Advanced verbal and written communication skills; capable of effective presentations. Proficiency in MS Office (intermediate). Thorough knowledge of project processes and how they support project success. Proficiency in project management and accounting software such as CMiC (intermediate). Proficiency in required construction technology (advanced). Ability to apply Lean process and philosophy (intermediate). Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and generate future work (advanced). Ability to complete estimating and productivity analysis. Track record of successful project completion from start to finish (advanced). Knowledge of MBE, WBE, SBA regulations; corporate risk management policies. Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team internally and externally. Education
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field. Equivalent relevant experience considered. Experience
10+ years construction management experience. 5+ years people management experience. Demonstrated success in leading multiple large or complex projects or teams. Experience managing and executing $200M+ of Aviation projects (Required). Working Environment
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. May require periods of overnight travel and non-traditional hours to meet project needs. Normal office environment with potential exposure to extreme conditions. Frequent physical activities: standing, walking, sitting; occasional: bending, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling.
