Job Summary The Japanese Corporate Banking (JCB) Client Services Sr Specialist’s primary responsibility is to assist JCB corporate banking clients in responding to their inquiries and requests, determine appropriate pricing of loans and deposits based on the market condition at the time of request and relationship status, and instruct middle and back office to book transactions once the rates are agreed upon. The role contributes to the growth of JCB and maximises overall client satisfaction. It also involves proactively reaching out to clients in case of irregular activities at their account to resolve discrepancies and funding shortages, thereby protecting the client fund and acting as the first line of defense for the bank’s capital, liquidity, and reputation. The Sr Specialist performs essential functions within the Client Services Department (CSD) of Japanese Corporate Banking (JCB), offering a wide range of services such as loans, deposits, investment, cash management and foreign exchange (FX), and plays a critical role to differentiate MUFG’s JCB from U.S. local competitors.
Primary Responsibilities include Perform critical Interaction with JCB clients (80%)
Monitor maturing loans, deposits and foreign exchange (FX) transactions, proactively reaching out to clients to ensure their funding, saving, and forex needs are addressed each day.
Determine the rate applicable based on relationship status and credit approval conditions and seek funding rates from the Global Market Division.
Instruct the back office operations to proceed with booking transactions once terms and conditions are agreed upon, ensuring compliance with approved conditions and sufficient credit capacity.
Close foreign exchange deals (buying and selling) with all major currencies for spot dates and set forward option contracts.
Arrange standby domestic/money market operations for various terms and conditions, ensuring rates quoted meet internal guidelines.
Improve and maintain client satisfaction by responding in a timely manner to inquiries and requests.
Deepen awareness and limit potential fraud. Investigate suspicious activity and wire transfers, contacting clients to ensure all funding and fund transfers are properly authorized by registered representatives.
Monitor non‑sufficient fund (NSF) data throughout the day and contact the client and relationship manager to prevent overdraft.
Monitor WIP account to ensure every entry is accounted for with correct GL data.
Meet with the client to brief on CSD services and support the relationship manager in marketing JCB’s full‑service and dedicated client‑service resources.
Inter‑department coordination to address client requests and inquiries and contribute to department management through participation in trainings, projects and maintaining comprehensive data (20%)
Maintain full understanding of the Bank's internal policies and procedures relevant to credit policies (ACP/ACRP), transaction banking products, and acquire knowledge of overall banking operations and products as well as market conditions.
Work with the Transaction Banking Client‑delivery team to follow up with clients on issues.
Participate in departmental and JCB cross‑unit projects.
Update and maintain a variety of databases; retrieve data to produce reports, conduct analyses, and respond to client and management inquiries.
Participate in Kaizen activities to improve accuracy and efficiency of operations and prepare and update CSD operation manuals and procedures.
Perform duties as assigned by the Department Head including:
Assist with state, federal, and internal audits.
Investigate and provide solutions for past‑due and pending items.
Qualification
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
Prior experience in corporate banking, wealth management or at a senior retail branch level is preferred.
General commercial banking product (credit and/or deposit) knowledge is required.
Excellent communication skills with attention to detail and problem‑solving capacity are required. Japanese language proficiency is preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with various internal partners.
Knowledge of basic PC applications (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
The typical base pay range for this role is between $54 K and $74 K depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for discretionary performance‑based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
