Summary of Position The Tax Director handles multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring the engagements are appropriately scheduled and staffed based on the complexity and size. The Tax Director is also responsible for developing and training managers and staff as well as participating in mentoring employees. This position will also be responsible for the strategic decisions relating to the practice and the tax department and will also aid in marketing efforts and developing new business.
Essential Functions
Review of highly complex individual and business returns
Develop strong relationships with clients and become their primary contact
Responsible for ensuring client retention through effective problem resolution, negotiations, and proactive client follow-up
Maintain a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of client business
Negotiate client fees and any additional billing fees
Coach all levels of staff during the planning, execution, completion phases of client engagement
Responsible for planning, organizing, running monthly technical meetings for professional staff
Notify partner group of changes in federal, state, and other applicable tax laws prior to commencement of change
Regularly and proactively report to the partner group on any updates or changes within tax department, status of engagement projects, any issues within department along with recommended solutions, and ROI of current initiatives or developments within tax department
Proactively identify inefficiencies and insufficiencies within tax department and actively work to reduce or eliminate them
Responsible for ensuring the tax department has proper staffing and actively forecasting staffing needs
Regularly work with audit department coordinating client visits between audit/tax department
Actively participate in new business development through networking and proposals – must understand and actively market all firm services
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field
Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in public accounting with demonstrated progression in complexity and scope
Experience reviewing complex individual and business returns
CPA license, preferably for the state of CT
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent ability to multi-task
Ability to work heavy overtime from January to April 15 (may be in excess of 55 hours per week). Occasional overtime work required throughout the year.
