Vice President of Advancement Position Summary

Reporting toand working in close collaboration withthe Vice President of Advancement theDirector of Developmemntwillprovide strategicinputto the school’sannualfundprogram, grant writing efforts,andAlumni Relations.TheDirectorwill be part ofateam that seekstogrow the school’s donor baseanddevelop a major giving program.Beyond securing donations, they also play a vital role in stewarding these donors and ensuring their continued engagement and loyalty to the organization. In essence, theDirector of Development acts as abridge between Westerns mission and its most generous supporters, helping to fund important programs and initiatives. EssentialDuties/Functions

Donor Cultivation and Solicitation: Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with donors, includingmajordonors, foundations, andchurches, to secure significant financial contributions. Develop and implement tailored cultivation strategies, including personalized communications, donor visits, and engagement opportunities to deepen relationships and increase donor commitment. Major Gift Planning and Proposal Development: Collaborate with the development team to create compelling gift proposals, tailored to donors' philanthropic interests and financial capacity with an emphasis and goal ofacquiringmajor gifts. DonorPortfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of 150 prospects/donors, creating and implementing individualized cultivation and solicitation plans. Conduct in-depth prospect research toidentifyand prioritize donorsand potential donors. Utilize strategic movesandmanagement techniques to guide prospects through the cultivation cycle, from identification to solicitation and stewardship. SolicitationSuccess: This includes achieving specific financial targets within a designatedtimeframe. Demonstrate success insolicitingmajor gifts from prospects in their portfolio. Effectively present compellinggift p/proposals, address donor concerns, and secure commitments atappropriate givinglevels.A successful candidate will be able to meet or exceed fundraising goals set by the institution. Relationship Building: Establishand maintain strong relationships withassigneddonors,churches,and alumni,building trust, rapport, and confidence inWestern’smission andacademic programs. Collaborate with board members, executive leadership,faculty,and program staff to engage donors in meaningful ways, including personal meetings, events, and programmatic sitevisits. Collaboration and Teamwork: Work collaboratively with the development team and other stakeholders to align gift strategies with overall fundraisingobjectives. Participate in team meetings, strategy sessions, and donor/alumnicultivation events to maximize philanthropic opportunities. Qualifications

Evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the World Evangelical Alliance Statement of Faith and the Seminary’s governing virtues. Genuine passion for Western’s mission and commitment to making a positive impact through philanthropy. Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of stakeholders. Proven ability to manage a portfolio of donor prospects, including research, cultivation, and solicitation strategies. Bachelor's degreerequired; advanced degree in a related field is a plus Minimum of10years of experience indonor cultivation andfundraising, preferably in a nonprofit organization. Demonstrated success in securingdonations, including major giftsfrom individuals, foundations, and corporations. Strong understanding of philanthropic motivations and trends among high-net-worth individuals and institutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and communicateWestern'smission effectively. Experience withcustomer relationshipmanagement and donor database systems. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independentlyandcollaboratively within a team environment. Avalid driver’s licenseand reliablepersonaltransportationarerequiredfortravel.Must be available to travel up to65% of the time, oftenovernightandoccasionally onweekends–predominantlyinOregon, Washington,and California. Availabilityto fly throughoutthe United States.
