The Office of Development manages fundraising across the institution. Our team employs a constituency‑based fundraising model, working directly with research programs and the executive office to set a comprehensive strategy that supports our scholars’ work.
Responsibilities The Director, Individual Giving is a vital member of the Development team, raising funds and managing donor relationships with individual donors. The role reports to the Managing Director, Individual Giving and works closely with scholars and colleagues across the organization to grow revenue, secure major gifts, and deepen engagement.
Fundraising (70%) : Develop and manage a personal portfolio of major gift donors, identify and prioritize cultivation and solicitation plans, partner with senior leadership on strategic and tactical business plans, steward top donors, communicate fundraising needs, and stay abreast of fundraising trends.
Fundraising Strategy and Alternative Revenue Streams (30%) : Identify, cultivate, and secure revenue streams through strategic partnerships, coordinate cross‑programmatic fundraising efforts, and collaborate on core needs and program‑unrestricted support strategies.
Qualifications
Education/Experience Requirements : Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum six years of successful fundraising experience with individuals, including proven history of soliciting gifts of at least $100,000. Demonstrated success in meeting financial goals, analyzing challenges, and formulating solutions. Experience working with senior leadership, high‑level volunteers, donors, and complex organizations.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements : Comprehensive understanding of institutional development (campaigns, annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, fundraising information systems, prospect research, stewardship). Ability to conceptualize, plan, and implement strategic approaches to building relationships and securing philanthropic support. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact with high‑net‑worth individuals in diverse settings. Team player with strong project management, analytical, and organizational skills. Decisive, diplomatic, resourceful, and professional with integrity, honesty, and trust.
