Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) has served as the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, collaborating with the Presidio Trust, partners, donors, and the community to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The GGNRA spans three Bay Area counties, encompassing iconic sites like Muir Woods National Monument, Fort Point National Historic Site, Alcatraz Island, Crissy Field, Mori Point, Lands End, and the Presidio of San Francisco.
Major Gifts Officer – Capital Campaign (Muir Woods, Redwood Renewal) Position Overview: This is a term‑limited position. The term of the assignment is anticipated to be two years in duration, from July 2026 to July 2028. The primary responsibility is to raise $5M or more over the next two years for the Muir Woods: Redwood Renewal Capital Campaign, whose overall fundraising target is $23M.
Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and Capital Campaigns, the MGO will identify, cultivate, solicit, and grow major gift donors to the Parks Conservancy toward major funding initiatives and projects. The role will work closely with major donors, prospects, volunteers, board and executive staff to strengthen community relationships, focusing on Marin County, and execute moves management strategies to secure major gift support.
This position is based at the Parks Conservancy’s headquarters at Fort Mason in San Francisco. In‑person work two‑three days per week is expected, with additional off‑site meetings as needed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Manage a robust portfolio of campaign prospects (approx 60‑100), developing and executing strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship in support of Redwood Renewal.
Establish individualized goals for each prospect based on giving history, capacity, and alignment with organizational priorities.
Lead and support major gift solicitations, partnering with senior staff and campaign volunteers by preparing materials, shaping strategy, and guiding donor communications.
Maintain an active personal portfolio to drive major and leadership‑level giving.
Develop high‑quality donor communications, including proposals, briefings, invitations, and stewardship materials.
Track progress against goals, regularly evaluating performance and preparing updates for senior leadership.
Design and implement moves management strategies across individual prospects and the broader portfolio.
Conduct face‑to‑face solicitations and support board and staff in their fundraising efforts.
Ensure timely donor acknowledgment and thoughtful, ongoing stewardship.
Represent the Parks Conservancy at external events and in key donor‑facing settings.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
5+ years of professional fundraising experience with a demonstrated track record of meeting ambitious goals and successfully securing five‑ and six‑figure gifts.
Proven experience in capital campaigns and major gifts fundraising, including managing complex donor portfolios and driving progress toward campaign benchmarks.
Strong understanding of the Bay Area philanthropic landscape, with preferred familiarity and connections in Marin County donor communities.
Demonstrated success in cultivating, re‑engaging, and upgrading donors, particularly in the context of special projects or campaign initiatives.
Ability to develop and execute strategic moves management plans, translating high‑level fundraising goals into clear, actionable steps.
Exceptional relationship‑building skills, with the ability to engage and inspire donors, board members, volunteers, and senior leadership.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling donor‑facing materials and deliver clear, confident solicitations.
High level of organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Experience working cross‑functionally and influencing without authority, with a collaborative and solutions‑oriented approach.
Proficiency with donor databases and office technology (experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM systems preferred).
Passion for the mission of the Parks Conservancy, with an understanding of the environmental, cultural, and community context of Bay Area parks.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Must be available occasionally to work on evenings and weekends.
Salary/Benefits The annual salary is $125,000 (Grade 24). As part of our equitable pay practices, we will not be able to offer a starting salary beyond this amount.
