Graduate Resident Director (GRD) The Office of Housing & Residence Life at Northampton Community College is committed to the development of a safe and inclusive living‑learning community, which fosters academic, social, cultural, and personal growth.

As a key member of the Housing & Residence Life team, the Graduate Resident Director will help to oversee the development and safety of our on‑campus community.

Graduate Resident Director responsibilities include managing daily operations, contributing to the Living/Learning Communities, engaging students, assisting student staff, handling policy violations, serving on the on‑call rotation, overseeing housing operations, and participating in professional development.

*Filling of position contingent upon funding*.

This position is part‑time, includes evening and weekend on‑call support, and is a 10‑month live‑in role for a Master’s Program candidate. The contract is renewable based on performance, and includes furnished housing and a meal plan.

Community Development & Engagement

Get to know residents on campus and be available to them in your office, virtually, and at programs;

Respond to students in a timely manner, especially those in distress;

Demonstrate respect for residents with different lifestyles and opinions;

Become familiar with resources on campus so that you can appropriately guide students;

Survey the residents, as appropriate, to continue to receive feedback to help us improve the housing program overall;

Work to further develop and enhance the Residential Curriculum and Living/Learning Communities by planning and executing events to engage student development.

Student Staff

Assist with weekly/bi‑weekly/monthly staff meetings, including agenda preparation and running meetings with Resident Directors;

Provide feedback and guidance to CAs/RAs and assist with their evaluations;

Assist with recruitment and selection of CAs/RAs;

Oversee CAs/RAs’ programming throughout each semester to ensure goals are met and programs run properly;

Ensure programs are properly spaced and not conflicting with other campus events.

Policy & Student Discipline

Know the Residence Life Handbook, housing contract, and other important documents;

Respond to policy violations and document as needed;

Serve as a hearing officer for lower/medium level cases of alleged student conduct violations.

On‑Call Duty

Serve in the emergency on‑call rotation for RA support;

Be on campus (or within five minutes) when on‑call;

Document incidents and submit incident reports;

Act as a mandated reporter as required by law;

Use access to master keys, student rooms, etc. properly;

Follow procedures when responding to incidents, contacting Public Safety, 911, and Admin On‑Call as needed.

Housing Operations

Assist Resident Directors with check‑ins, check‑outs, student moves, and roommate mediations;

Notify Maintenance and Housekeeping of any issues and follow up as needed;

Oversee the operations of the Front Desk in the Residence Hall Commons.

Professional Development

Participate in Student Staff and Professional Staff trainings in August and January;

Attend bi‑weekly professional staff meetings and one‑on‑one meetings;

Participate in other professional development opportunities as offered.
