Employee Relations Manager, UK
The Employee Relations Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting employees and managers in Employee Relations matters to create a positive and productive work environment. The role is central within the HR Team, and is responsible for maintaining high standards of employee relations, ensuring the company lives the AbbVie Way and remains an attractive employer for the future.
Responsibilities
Lead on all employee relations issues, e.g. investigations, grievances, conflict resolution, disciplinaries
Work closely with the BHR Team to strategise and agree a strong approach to all employee relations matters
Develop, implement, and improve Employee Relations strategies, policies, and procedures.
Advise managers and employees on UK labour law, HR policies, workplace disputes, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Partner with internal stakeholders (HR, Legal, Compliance, IT, Data Privacy) and external consultants to resolve employee-related matters. Handle communications with external legal counsel where necessary, and support litigation.
Lead investigations, document findings, and make recommendations for resolution; ensure all documentation is accurate and compliant.
Mediate conversations between employees/managers to drive conflict resolution
Devise and deliver training to the HR team and leaders on ER topics, according to the needs at the time
Monitor ER metrics, analyse trends, report findings, and propose action plans to HR Director
Ensure compliance with all relevant local and national employment laws.
Qualifications
Extensive HR experience specifically in employee relations
Deep understanding of employment law and HR practices.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with diplomacy
Experience of mediation yielding positive outcomes
Strong communication, social, and mediation skills.
Operates with a pragmatic solutions-focused mindset
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
High ethical standards, integrity, and discretion.
Proactive and collaborative working style. Flexible and adept at managing multiple priorities.
Sets challenging goals and constantly questions the status quo
Regularly seeks feedback and implements it accordingly
