About the Role
THE FIRM is looking for an experienced communications manager with strong writing skills to join our Marketing & Communications team. This individual will work on internal and external communications, project manage our proposals and awards processes, and assist in overseeing a dedicated proposals and awards writer. They will also work closely with additional business development staff and attorneys to facilitate best-in-class approaches to position the firm to win new business and maintain and grow current client relationships.
This individual will provide support, as needed, with written content for various marketing channels, including the website, social media, event invitations, extranet sites, post-event follow-up communications, newsletters, brochures, firm recruiting materials, firm leadership email communications, and other writing assignments. As a member of a small department, they will be expected to collaborate with colleagues on other projects as needed and as workload permits.
Key Responsibilities:
Own, project manage, and oversee the firm’s RFP, pitch, and awards programs. Responsibilities include supervising a dedicated proposals and content writer, opportunity identification, running kick-off meetings, calendaring, and managing deadlines, resourcing, quality control, and results tracking. Collaborate with senior managers, attorneys, and fellow business professionals to develop a compelling proposal response strategy with a high degree of tailoring to the client’s needs and requests. Step in as a hands-on proposal and awards writer, when necessary, particularly with high-profile, time-sensitive, heavy volume or complex submissions. Serve as the senior reviewer, editor and proofreader on RFPs, pitches, and awards submissions, ensuring drafts are strategically sound, client-focused, and polished before escalation to senior leadership. Ensure quality proposals are completed within deadlines and manage the calendar of expected proposals to ensure no opportunities are missed. Proactively identify new RFP and pitch opportunities in partnership with the Business Development team and firm leadership; maintain a forward-looking pipeline and submission calendar. Work with the Proposals and Content Writer to establish and continuously refine RFP processes, templates, workflows, and tracking mechanisms, including win/loss analysis and reporting. Display a continual focus on process improvement and efficiency. For example, help identify inefficiencies in the RFP process and develop plans to address them. Partner with attorneys, Business Development staff, and external PR/media resources to identify, shape, and place thought leadership, including article placement and campaign development. Build deep institutional knowledge of clients, prospects, partners, and market dynamics. Translate Business Development insights into targeted proposals, campaigns, and content strategies that support client development and retention. Contribute at a high level to the firm’s content and thought leadership strategy, ensuring alignment with business development priorities, practice goals, and firm positioning. Collaborate with internal teams, including individual attorneys, to develop content that showcases the firm’s experience, expertise, and thought leadership. Write, edit, and publish high-quality content for the website, social media, email newsletters, and other marketing channels. Review and edit existing content to ensure it is accurate, compelling, concise, and consistent with the firm’s messaging and brand identity, and website content. When needed, draft new content and prepare fresh content to enhance the firm’s overall appeal across channels, including articles, campaigns, website and marketing collateral, social media content, email communications, presentation scripts, and podcast transcripts. Possess strong motivation and intellectual curiosity to understand the securities litigation landscape and the firm’s client base and bring new ideas to the firm. Position Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or a related discipline preferred. A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in professional services. Prior experience on RFPs is helpful. Strong leadership skills, work ethic, internal client-service mindset, and an ability to work independently and as part of a team. Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to a high-quality work product. Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise messaging. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to prioritize workload, handle several projects simultaneously, and complete tasks within the deadline in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated critical thinking, creativity, and technical skills. Ability to work at the highest levels with business acumen and in a matrixed organization. Comfortability working closely with senior leadership on high priority deadline-driven projects. Experience using content management, proposal building software and document management systems, including I-Manage is helpful. Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Flexibility in working hours, including occasional evening or weekend work during peak periods (approximately once every six weeks). This is a full-time, exempt position based in New York City.
