Overview

Executive Director, Global Program Leader (GPL) in our Cambridge office. Takeda seeks an experienced and highly skilled drug development leader to lead the program team for an innovative hepatology program, which is evaluating a first-in-class molecule intended for a rare disease. The current program encompasses multiple ongoing clinical trials, including a phase 3 registrational study. The individual appointed to this role will be accountable for advancing the program through regulatory filing, approval, and eventual commercialization. Objectives

The Global Program Leader is a seasoned drug development leader fully dedicated, responsible and accountable for overarching Global Program(s). The GPL defines the asset strategy and leads all development and Life Cycle Management projects associated with an asset from discovery to the marketplace. The guiding framework for this role is defined by Takeda’s values of Patient-Trust-Reputation-Business. In addition to project-specific responsibilities, the ED GPL may be called upon to represent the GPL community in enterprise-wide initiatives to improve speed/cost to market (e.g., innovative trial designs, improving governance processes, asset strategy, etc.). Responsibilities

Lead the Global Program Team (GPT) and oversee all development and Life Cycle Management activities for an asset from discovery to marketplace. Define asset strategy and lead all development and LCM projects; ensure alignment with unmet medical need, competitive landscape and key target product profile attributes to bring the product to market with global patient access. Represent the GPL community in enterprise-wide initiatives to improve speed and cost to market (e.g., innovative trial designs, governance improvements, asset strategy). Provide matrix management and strategic/tactical leadership to GPT members responsible for key deliverables of functional sub-teams; ensure project scope, budget and timelines are met with value maximization and a balance of time/quality. Manage operating budgets within the global program; lead budget setting with functions and monitor variance to budget to meet Takeda financial objectives. Report on program progress, issues, updates, new requests for decision, and risks to Takeda executive governance as per company process. May lead key business initiatives and feasibility studies on potential global programs; may represent GPL in internal development optimization initiatives. Promote organizational reputation by engaging with internal and external stakeholders and collaborating across the GPL community. Accountabilities

Program Strategy, Activity Planning and Execution: Oversee program team interactions with regulatory authorities and key opinion leaders relevant to assigned compounds; set program vision, strategy, goals, priorities and long-term plans; align cross-functional goals with Takeda business needs. Operations and Leadership: Provide strategic, process and operational leadership to GPTs and Takeda functions; manage multiple projects across development stages including early exploratory work through Phase III and global launches. Cross-functional Integration: Link GPT sub-teams to execute according to the Enterprise GPT Playbook; support Therapeutic Area Leaders to set vision and direction; ensure transparency of activities and deliverables. Reporting and Governance: Report progress, plans, critical path, risks and impact to executive management; manage scope changes, timelines and budget adjustments. Additional responsibilities may include evaluating new opportunities and supporting feasibility studies for potential global programs. Fiscal Responsibility

Accountable with the Global Program Manager for project operating budgets; monitor expenditures and manage variances to meet financial objectives. Resource and Issue Management

Evaluate external interactions within global development strategies; manage internal and external resources; identify and mitigate project risks; communicate status to senior management; use systems to improve reporting and data access. Change Management

Respond to market dynamics; adjust cross-divisional plans; contribute to KPI tracking, trend analysis and decision-making improvements based on program performance. Matrix Team Management

Mentor team members; provide matrix leadership to GPT members and sub-team leads; manage stakeholder relationships within a highly matrixed work environment. Required Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) Minimum of 12 years related/relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with deep knowledge of R&D and commercial operations Minimum 8 years interdisciplinary global experience with complex projects including strategy, execution and matrix team management Experience managing global marketing authorization submissions/approvals for multiple NMEs Broad business/enterprise orientation with proven matrix leadership experience Passionate about developing others into future leaders Licenses/Certifications

U.S. Base Salary Range: $238,000.00 - $374,000.00. The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on qualifications, experience, and location. U.S. employees may be eligible for incentives, health benefits (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) with company match, disability coverage, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, holidays, and well-being benefits.
