For 25 years, Families and Friends of Louisiana’s Incarcerated Children (FFLIC) has been organizing youth and families most impacted by the carceral system to transform the policies and institutions that harm them.
We are a grassroots, membership-based organization rooted in the belief that those closest to the problem should lead the solutions. Through our Organizing for Power model, we support youth and families to move from initial engagement to leadership, advocacy, and decision-making power.

The Role We are seeking an Organizing for Power Director
to lead and strengthen FFLIC’s statewide organizing strategy.
This is a
movement-building leadership role , not a traditional policy or program position.
The Director is responsible for ensuring that:
Youth and families most impacted by the carceral system are actively recruited into the organization
Members are developed into leaders
Leaders are activated through campaigns and organizing
Campaigns drive policy and systems change
You will oversee the full pipeline of power-building—from outreach to action—ensuring our campaigns (including Let Kids Be Kids and No More Prisons) are led by those most impacted.
The primary work will occur in the field (community engagement, chapter support, campaigns, and meetings across the state), with remote time used for planning, supervision, and administrative work.
The candidate should be located in Louisiana (or able to reliably travel statewide), with an expectation of approximately 20%+ travel depending on campaign needs.
What You’ll Do Build and Grow a Base of Impacted Youth & Families
Lead statewide outreach and recruitment strategy focused on impacted communities
Strengthen relational organizing practices across chapters
Ensure strong systems for engagement, retention, and follow-up
Oversee FFLIC’s leadership trajectory (Levels I–IV)
Ensure leadership development is embedded in organizing and campaigns
Support youth and parents to step into leadership, advocacy, and public roles
Lead Campaigns That Build Power
Guide strategy for major campaigns and organizing efforts
Ensure campaigns have clear demands, strong participation, and real outcomes
Support members to take action in legislative, community, and public spaces
Connect Organizing to Policy Change
Translate community priorities into policy strategy
Represent FFLIC in coalitions and decision-making spaces
Ensure policy work remains accountable to organizing goals
Lead and Align Teams
Supervise organizing, leadership development, and policy staff
Ensure alignment across outreach, leadership, campaigns, and communications
Build a culture of shared ownership, accountability, and growth

Qualifications
7–10+ years of experience in community organizing, advocacy, or systems-change work
Experience building or leading organizing campaigns or teams
Strong background in leadership development and/or political education
Experience connecting organizing to policy or systems change
Proven ability to supervise and develop staff
Lived experience or deep connection to communities impacted by the carceral system is highly valued.
