Job Purpose This role assists the Senior Associate Director for Project Delivery in overseeing projects, supporting multiple staff, and ensuring regulatory compliance. It participates in planning, budgeting, and contract negotiations, and acts as backup for the Senior Associate Director when they are away.
The role manages projects, driving them to completion and handling multiple projects of varying size and complexity. It directly manages a project team consisting of a project manager and a project engineer. Work is typically 80% project leadership and 20% technical contribution.
Core Duties
Perform the full range of project management lifecycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Independently lead projects requiring high levels of functional integration across multiple disciplines.
Direct development of action plans and estimate resource requirements (management, labor, materials, and time) to complete projects.
Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive consensus on recommendations.
Develop and help execute a comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders; lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
Manage project scope, risk, and stakeholder engagement across university-wide impact and external constituents; oversee budget and scope accountability up to and over $10M as appropriate.
Provide project management and financial oversight for the Project Delivery Team, including hands-on project accounting and quality assurance/control responsibilities.
Establish Quality Assurance (QA) procedures to prevent quality problems and ensure standards are addressed; implement Quality Control (QC) inspections to identify and correct defects and ensure conformance to standards.
Lead project accounting activities and ensure accurate tracking of costs and payments across the project portfolio.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience in management of projects with substantial size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred technical education in engineering, architecture, or construction management or related fields.
Preferred certification in Project or Construction Management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong written and oral communication skills to address diverse audiences.
Ability to assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in applying integration, scope, time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement in project management.
Ability to balance customer expectations with project reality and demonstrate resilience, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills.
Interpersonal acuity and awareness; depth of knowledge in the technical domain necessary to deliver projects.
Preferred technical experience in engineering, architecture, or construction management.
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing/walking, desk-based computer tasks; occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds; other physical activities as described for the role.
Valid California driver’s license required.
Auditory and visual acuity suitable for the job tasks; ability to climb scaffolding, ladders, and stairs as needed.
Working Conditions
May work in active laboratories or outdoor environments; exposure to varied temperatures, noise, chemicals, or other hazards typical of a university setting.
May drive at any time; may work extended hours, evenings, and weekends as required.
Personal protective equipment may be required based on specific assignments.

Compensation The expected pay range for this position is $175,000 - $185,000 per annum. Stanford provides pay ranges as a good faith estimate; actual pay offered will depend on factors including scope, responsibilities, qualifications, budget, equity, location, and market pay.
